Hey everyone, my names Jason. At about last August I bought my 95 Firebird. There's nothing special about it right now, it's pretty much all stock besides a new air intake. Now as for my question.. Can anyone decipher my VIN #. I've tried to, I even went to www.autocheck.com to get a sample report and the only information it can find is that it was manufactured in 1995, and that it was assembled in the United Kingdom. Yet, when I was deciphering it, it said that it was assembled in the St. Therese Plant. Here's the VIN:

SGSFS22S2S2233589

I put one of the 2's in bold to emphasize which number I believe represents the St. Therese assembly plant. But immediately I am baffled by the fact that the VIN starts with an S, rather than the usual 1 for the U.S., or 2 for Canada. I looked up what the S is supposed to stand for, and well, it does in fact stand for the United Kingdom. Unless I am mistaking. I'm really just trying to find out more about this car since I have no paperwork of any sort of it's history. I've looked up GM's UK assembly plants, and the only one I can find of theirs is the Vauxhall plant. So I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any Firebirds that were assembled in the UK? I appreciate all help given.

You live in the US right? and Even if your vehicle was made in another country if you have a US vinit should start with a 2 because its a pontiac. You may have a car that was shipped to the UK after assembly and that might just be the Vin's they use for there vehicles.

Yeah, sorry I forgot to mention that I live in Florida. I guess that would seem logical though. But even still, I don't understand why it says it was manufactured in the UK if it was in fact assembled in Canada. That's just weird.

Well it couldn't have been built in the UK. It must have just been a misprint but I would bet it was just a UK delivered car. Although I have never seen a UK VIN but if you go to a site like Ebay or some other site were they list vins for Pontiac's that are in Europe and if it starts with a S. That would let you know for sure.

According to carfax that vin doesnt exist but if i replace the S with a 2 it checks out ok and says made in canada, the vin label might have been missprinted. Also GM was under contract to only build f-bodies at the St. Therese plant and legally they were prohibited from building them anywhere else, they are actually having trouble with the planned 2007 camaro because the St Therese plant was demolished and since it will not be built there they might not legally be allowed to use the name Camaro if they build it elsewhere.

Hmm, that's odd. My cars in the body shop gettin work done on it right now. But when I get it back, which should be the 7th, I'll have to double check that VIN again. But yeah, I know all about the St. Therese plant and how it was demolished because GM could get more money for the land it was on than to sell the land with the factory on it. I read up on that after I heard they were discontinued. But yeah, thank's for the help. That really helped me clear things up though about my VIN.
