I have an HP Desktop, had it since 2002. Since then I havent been able to burn/play anything im my CD drive. I've done system recovery, and still no luck. My DVD drive works perfect, and I now have to use that drive play all my cd's,etc. When I insert a CD(blank, Cd-rom), it make a noise, (spins fast) & it dosent read anything. Dose anyone know a soulution? I've tried CD cleaners, never read the cd.

HP CD/rw drives in general are JUNK. Buy a new one and that'll fix your problem.

Right you are. 90% of the computers I worked on at the repair shop were HP's or Compaq's.

Feint Motion:
Make sure the IDE cable is connected properly to the CD writer and other devices, make sure the jumpers on both optical drives are set correctly, and try again. If you still have issues with the writer reading any discs, it's a dead drive and will need to be replaced.

Either something's out of alignment, the servos are shot, or the laser isn't functioning correctly. Any of the above spells a new CD writer.

Thanks! I Figure it was the lense, since I burned some old cd's for a friend back in 2002(they were dirty, didnt wipe them off).

Might want to have a shot at a CD lens cleaner and see what that does for you. If it's still problematic, you'd probably be better off replacing the writer. The lens could be scratched or something.
