Ok, im not getting a muffler for at least another month but Im board and I would figure I would ask you all. I want a decent muffler for hopefully around 125 or less. Something that wount last for 6 months then puke, or rust. Something that has a nice low tone to at at slow RPMS but does not get loud as all hell at higher RPMs (well into 5k and over its expected to be loud) I dont want a muffler thats gonna be blasting at 100db when im only at 3 - 4 k RMPS. I cant stans these cars that drive by me sometimes with there cheap ass turbo mufflers that are loud as hell when there only going 25 miles an hour. Sorry just wanna set you guys straight on what im looking for. Any suggestions?

its a 4" dual dragger. ive seen them online for cheaper, but i bought it at speed merchant for 200. just too impacient to wait and i had money to blow. heres a pic of it on my car. kinda hard to see though. and i just sent out the audio actually, so youll get it next time you check.

i like mine alot more than all other dual tips, because mine also had twin canisters. its not just a dtm style.

it looks like this, except mine has bigger and longer tips, and bigger canisters.

I have done LOTS of Hondas this way!! ELIMINATE that last muffler that just rusts, etc. STRAIGHT pipe, cat back, and a SUPER tip. I put the TWIN upswept 4" on the last and it looks GREAT!! The tone is JUST right.......never TOO loud, SWEET at low RPM. TOTAL cost to me....$48!! TRY IT!

Do you think that the one at the bottom left of this page for $139 would be about the same? http://www.zauto1.com/SS_Combo.html

actually thats the one i took the pic from, ill see if i can find others. personally i dont think it would sound the same. im not sure if theres more than one way to construct the inside of the muffle(glass packed, etc.) now this could be complete nonsense, im not sure... but soundwise, think of the tips as if they were musical instruments. i would assume the longer and wider the tip is, it will produce a deeper tone. the little stubby 3" tips that one has, would produce a shallower higher pitch sound. but ill see if i can find others, i dont do shit on my days off anyways:D :D

Right on man, I would sya your prolly right about the way the tips would effect the sound. If you could find the same muffler you have for me that would be sweet. I have a coupe as well and I like the way it looks on your car. Thanks for looking for me. DO you know the exact brand of yours?

yea it is. i got a set of speedtech springs. actually the front is dropped 2", but i kept the back up. im just looking for a bumper kit that will fit around the muffler, which isnt the easiest of things since its about 8-9" wide. i kept the back up just to be different, and of course its better for drag since it put more wieght up front. too bad i dont race.

ok well i just called the shop and they said it was a maxspeed.

what size rims do you have?? mine are 17" and they fit the front nicely. they get rid of the gap but they dont tuck which is vital since im going to install a camber kit. as for the back, if i dropped those too i would probably need to roll the fenders ALOT to make room for a camber correction, and my tires. most people get 204/40's, but i got 215/45, so they stick alot more.

now heres how my car would look if it was like every other honda in california.

Maxspeed muffler huh? Ill try to find one. Yea, I think im only gonna take my rear down about 1/2" if that even. I like the look of the front being lower than the rear.

heres a site i found with it. no prices though.
http://www.mechasports.com/msr_catalog/cat_engine_components/exhaust_files/maxspeed_cex05.html
its called a maxspeed "shotgun"

do you know any sites that i can get a deal on a rear bumper only. ive been looking at a few, but i dont see whre i can get just the bumper.

Sweet, I wasnt able to find it anywere. All I could find for maxspeed is the single canister muffler and the maxspeed coilovers which I already have. Im gonna ask them for a quote. What did you say that you paid for yours?

strodda

i paid 200. im sure i got ripped, but i had never seen it before i went to the shop. so i just got it.

Sorry man, dont know anywere other than E-bay to get just a rear bumper. I cant get ahold of Mecha Sports for a price. The lines are all busy bastards. Ill let ya know how much they are offer it for once I find out. Just incase you were wondering if you actually got ripped off or not.

looks like i didnt get ripped off.
http://www.2kracing.com/cgi-bin/web_store/web_store.cgi?page=main/index.htm
goto universal parts-->exhaust, then about 1/4 the way down. there it is.$195.00 theres a couple other dual canister mufflers, but i still like the maxspeed the best.

I forgot to ask, do you have stock pipe from you cat back to your muffler? Did you install it yourself? did you notice any gains other than the way it sounds, like HP wise?

strodda
03-08-2002, 04:44 PM
yea, its stock(mostly) from the catback. i want to get a catco highflow cat, but its not that high on my list of priorities. i want the carbon altezza first.
i had midas install it. i forget how much it was for the muffler cause i also had to buy some pipe to be installed leading up to the muffler. it was badly rusted.

yea i did notice some gain in power, but you cant expect alot. a muffler isnt a miracle worker, but it helps. i also have a coldair intake which adds a little more kick. the biggest improvement was visual. i have an automatic so it would change gears waaaay to early. now if i accelerate good instead of it changing gears between 3-4rpm, it goes up to 5-6k. although 6 1/4 is redline for me, so i gotta be careful sometimes. if i want, i can shift myself with my poorman's manumatic, which is how i actually get the best performance. i can get to 60mph in 2nd, and 75 in 3rd. but thats taking it kind of close to redline, and since im not running a quartermile i usually dont take it that far. but its nice to know you can.

strodda
03-08-2002, 04:48 PM
another thing too. when i was on the freeway, before the cai & muffler, if i downshifted for any reason the engine would make a lot of noise but go nowhere. now i can feel it when it shifts to 3rd. although if youre already going 90 the pick up wont be as fast.

The pipe is from the rear wheel back, eliminating the muffler, 4" chrome tip.

cool, ill be sure to look for them. i know theyre adjustable so you can change it later, but are you gonna drop the back too?

i saw that bumper too, but i didnt really like the shape of it on the bottom. i like the buddyclub one and i think it would be easy to cut some around the edges to make room for the muffler.

O yea, looks like im not gonna be able to get the Maxspeed shotgun muffler. The 2 places we found it dont have em anymore. Pluss I dont think im gonna be able to afford 200 bones. Shitty again!!. Do you know of another muffler that gives off a good low tone but does not get loud like a lawn mower?
