Need help, trying to grease shift cables...

Anybody got any suggestions as to how I can grease a couple of shift cables for a manual transmission?
I tried taping the straw from a can of silicone spray to the end of the sleeve and spraying it through, but the stuff just came back out through somewhere.
Any help will be much appreciated.
