automatic shifter won't engage

I hadn't started my 95 pont trans port for about 3 days ( I had the flu) and there wasn't anything wrong with it before. The van started ok but when I shifted it into gear nothing happened. I let it warm up because it has been about 15 degrees outside over the last few days (today it's about 35 degrees). Still nothing. The column shifter seems to operate ok but it doesn't even sound like it's going into gear. I check the trans fluid and had to add a pint. I had the fluid and filter changed 2 years ago. Please help.

i check first seeing if my shifter cable was broke. if u want to check if its going in gear i'd put in neutrel to see if ur van rolls with a push.
