I have a 94 v6 3.4L engine auto Okay here's the problem. Say I'm driving down the road and i hit u to 65-70 mph ( for example ) and I let up to let the car coast. Well when the car begins to deaccelerate sometimes my service engine soon light comes on and then my car starts to run somewhat rough. And when that light is on if i put it in park and rev my motor up to 2 1/2 - 3 g rpm's my car will make a backfire noise when the rpm's drop back down. Now I've heard people tell me it could be my EGR valve or my timing could be off, im no mechanic by any means and not really sure what the problem is. If anyone could help me out in any way i'd be most appreciative. One more question I still havn't figure out, is it just my car or is everyone else's firebirds motor really loud inside the car? If i dont have my stereo on i can barely hear anything because the motor is so loud is that a bad thing or just the way they were made? Thanks guys

Starting yesterday it seemed, another problem my car begun to have is that its running at upwards of 235 degree's when usually it runs around 180-190. And just lately i think because of my oil i have a ticking coming from the engine comparment primarily in idle mode but it's there even when accelerating.. well if anyone has any ideas or can help me lemme know !

A diagnostic would tell your engine code history, meaning even if the check engine light isnt on,the computer stores info on why it turned the light on previously(in some cases)
the backfiring and extra noise sounds like an exhaust issue, meaning it either has a leak,or oversized/aftermarket system>also if the converter has been*modified* this will cause a backfiring too.235 is a pretty dangerous temp for an aluminum motor. It can also make it run funny or cause expensive damage.
Try flushing the coolant system and putting in a new thermostat.Change the oil cause since it has overheated, your oil is wasted. If that dont help your problems take it to a muffler shop, and have the exhaust inspected for damage.Firebirds set low,so a bent or restricted exhaust system wouldnt be abnormal at all.If it does have an exhaust leak close to the motor, damage can result to the valves, bending or warping them.
A lot of firebirds came off the assembly lines loud. But its worth having it inspected just to make sure the problem isnt growing into somthing very expensive. An exhaust restriction could explain the extra heat, and noise, and light coming on.If none of that helps, take it to a professional for a visual and eletronic diagnostic,to further identify the problem.Good luck and welcome to the forum.

I read somewhere that the O2 sensor's can cause this. I have the same problem, when driving at high speed and then coasting the SES light comes on. But I don't get a backfire at all.
