I have a '95 Ranger 2.3 base model w/out ac, pwr stearing, etc. I just moved to Atlanta from up north and I figure I'm gonna want ac. Can I buy a kit and install it or should I get rid of the truck since it's got 160K on it. It runs great I'm just gonna need AC.

I'm from up north too. I am used to ripping them out to gain horse power :) I just stick to my alternator, water pump, and power steering pump.

I imagine they make kits, but I've been unable to find one. My friend had A/C installed on a 1979 Ford Fairmont station wagon with an inline 6 200. I think it cost about 600-800 bucks for a shop to install. If you want to do it yourself, you'll probably need to know what parts you need. You'll need to find a Ranger book with all the part numbers. You can prolly get free photocopies from your Ford dealership.

Another option is to call a junk yard. Tell them to pull everything you need to install A/C on your 1995 Ranger 2.3L. Usually, they know what they're doing, usually... You'll prolly have to take it in to get inspected and filled after the installation. New hoses might be a good idea too.

160,000 is not too bad on a 2.3L. As far as I know (I'm a 2.9L V6 guy), these engines are runners. I also have a friend that has a 1996 Ranger with a 2.3L (no A/C) and he rarely has problems. I think the last thing that went wrong was the alternator. 110,000 miles
