i have a 1998 mitsu eclp, with a 1990 6bolt motor (gst). My prob is that the car will start to radom missfire and if i reset the battery every thing will be ok for like a week, and then it will start doing it. When it does do it i have to let the car go down to 1,000rpm and then it will be ok for a sec and start to do it. I have a ck light on, but when i had it cked it was saying cam sensor. I have the EGR blocked so i know that will make the ck light come on. Another thing the car will backfire now it never did that before. Any help will be good thanks. :banghead:

Can a cam sec go bad, or does it just go?

I had this in my GST also... What you need to do is ground out the power transducer (little black rectangle box mounted to a bracket that use to bolt onto the manifold). Anyways the transducer is what sends signal to your coil packs to spark, without it grounded it will work for a little while then go into misfire mode, then you let it drop down to 1000 rpms and accelerate again and it wont misfire again until you are crusing at a steady speed.

To fix that, take a good sized ground strap, bolt it to the fire wall, then bolt the plate the transducer is mounted to directly to the ground strap, get it tight or it could come loose again. Then when you plug it in, if you dont have the metal clip anymore that holds the harness on, then take a couple zip ties and rap them around the plug and transducer so the plug doesnt fall off because that will also cause a misfire.

If your in Tampa and cant figure it out before I get down there I can surly look at it for you and get you all set up so it doesnt do it anymore.

wow thank you......

this has been driveing me nuts i spent soooooo much $ on this motor and this one thing was gonna make me sell it. i'll try what you said and get back to you.

so your saying the plug that is right by the coil (witch i had to move) unbolt that from the manifold and just hook it to the groung strap and zip tie it so it's not just hanging there on the ground strap, right?

sorry to bother, but what if i hook up a ground strap to the fire wall and just hook it to where it sites now, or do i need to just let it hang? i had to put it on the bottom back of the intake manifold where the last bolts is (where the manifold bolts to the head) that is where the braket it now. it would not fit where the 2nd gen was.

Bolt it right to the bracket, that way you know it is grounded good! You can either leave mounted to the manifold (good idea) or you can let it hang.
