3000GT vs. CRX

it was nice out yesterday night, it rained a bit around 5:00 and I got out of work around 7:00 (already dark) and hit the highwy around 7:20. I dont know if this guy was behind me on the ramp or if he had been already heading down on the highway but when I got to the on ramp I accelerated up to around 80 so when I merged on to the highway I was already doing 80 and this guy in a late model yellow CRX just rockets by me. Like I said, I really dont know where he came from, I didnt even down shift cause seriously I didnt think I'd catch him. he was doing an easy 115.
about 2 miles down I get to a toll booth , guess who is in the booth next to me, yup the CRX. he gives off a couple of revs. I look over but he was looking straight ahead......wonder if hes just reving for fun....
I pay and start to take off slowly, he takes off hard and gets a 4 car lead before he shifts to second. I mash first but by the time I hit second I've only managed to match his speed. he is still 4 car ahead.
I redline 2nd and my shift light goes off, punch it into third and I start to catch up slowly, by 5000rpms I've cut his lead in half and I can see he is starting to fall back but hes not letting off, the dude is still gunning it. at redline I pull dead even to him and side by side I shift into fourth, My shift and exhaust eco off the side of his car wwwwoooooooooooooo.................oooooooooowwwww wwwwwwww.
I held 4th till about 5000 rpms and let go putting a deffinitve lead of about three cars on him (thanks to the momentum I carried over from so far behind). I didnt flash my blinkers or look over and laugh like a dick or anything. the car was nice as hell too. glossy yellow, nicely flared body kit, tight suspension, really nice exhaut layout and sparco seats. judging from the fact that I've driven tons of crx's and my sisters bf has a bpu CRX I can tell this one had a DOHC or some kind of swap cause it held in there for a while. nice run, fun kill, I hope I run into that guy again!

wow...sounds like fun...i wish i could have seen that...i kno a guy who has a 89 civic hatch with a swapped in teg GSR motor out of that year...6 speed tranny...gutted interior...runnin 14.5's...he didn't really WALK all over me either...i was surprised...i mean yea he did beat me...but not as much as i thought he would...

How fast is a 3000gt stock? Its not the turbo version right? Musta been a swap...Turbo or not (you) 3000gts haul ass...

a stock n/a 3000GT is a mid 15 second car. alot of good drivers can pull a low 15 and in our forums alot of guys have mid 14s. mine is a n/a with just an intake and catback, I ran a 15.5 stock.

Those CRXs can get to be pretty quick if they throw in those B-series motors in em, because the little buggers weigh as much as a shoebox...I have come across a couple of CRX's with B16a swaps, and they put up a really good fight.

A CRX with a B16 swap is like a gutted Si, so it should run somewhere in the low 15s, high 14s range, I'm guessing.

dude, i've seen a H22a powered CRX goin against a VR4, and with my own eyes, the VR4 lost....Twice...(damn!) serious, some of those ricers do kinda get scary on drag, but on the highway, the VR4 will rule almost any ricer.

I would hope that you can meet up with that guy again. Pretty cool that he stayed ahead for a while. Seriously, my dad's SL is damn fast, and I can only imagine how much faster a VR4 is, and the CRX stayed ahead for quite awhile. Good kill too, even though you had a late start you still won in the end. Nice Run. Late...

Nice kill, I've only really gotten to play with one CRX on the highway, duck and weave stuff...stupid, but fun. Till we almost got run off the road by a damned 18 wheeler.

...wouldn't reccommend going into the breakdown lane to pass trucks....ever seen mischief 3000? Some prick in an M-roadster tried the same manuveur(spelling=bad) and got his ass run off the road.

Yeah, but considering we were both next to the truck as he started to come over, we really didn't have a choice. And the highway portion that we were on was a nice bend, so the break down lane is huge, its a little bit bigger than a full lane an a half to give breathing room for cars comming around the turn and those in the break down lane.

Ive lost count man, ever since I started saving up for the tune up I am pounding the hell outta this motor, I love it, who ever said mitsubishies where unreliable musta been driving a U.S. built mitsu, the Jap ones are as engineered as can be. Im racing like 5 a wek on average plus the SCCA runs on sundays once a month, its just I dont post all cause some races are really bad. I almost beat the hell outta some kid cause he had a gorgeous civic and said he would slaughter me, he had a stock 1.6 lt SOHC, I got out and slapped him WHY DID YOU MAKE ME WASTE MY GAS A**H@@L? I EXPECTED ALOT BETTER FROM YOU YA POSER!
but yeah its been about 20 races in the past 3 weeks.
