right now im 18, going to school full time, and working 2 jobs to pay for it. Ive managed to save up some extra cash, and ive decided to buy a supra. im not sure if i shoudl get an mkiii or an mkiv. Is it really possible to find a decent mkiv for under $10,000? I cant afford anythign more, and im starting to think itll be better to just get an mkiii, and wait until i get out of school to buy an mkiv. what do you guys think? will it be extremley hard to get an mkiv in 2009?

im just starting to get into supras and havent heard of mkiii or mkiv i got a 240 and there is a zenki and kouki so im guessing mkiii is under 93 and mkiv is 93+
yes i think its going to be harder to find a mkiv in 2009 because the new models are hard enough to find as it is, and the prices went up, this is the car that will be growing in price and demand... people will start restoring them , they already do im sure and some people will pay big bucks to own one.. these are great cars, its going to be a classic thats hard to find, in my point of view...
as far as finding a 93+ for $10k, it is possible for a NA supra... depends also on how many miles as well, and if it needs any work, so yes its possible, i seen some go for about $8-$9 but i wouldnt get a NA supra... i want a TT/T and turbo ones u can find for $15k if you look long and hard enough, good deals are hard to find, but are worth waiting for..

right now however, i only have 5000 saved towards a new car. im not makign that much since im going to school full time, so itll be a few years before i can actually get 15000. i also want to get a TT model. do you think with the new supra released in 2006 the demand for the older models wont be as high? otherwise i doubt i will ever own a supra... :'(

You will not find a TT MKIV for under $25K unless there is something wrong with it. I'll put it plain and simple, if you can't afford the car outright, you can't afford the maintenance to keep it running properly. Get what you like, don't "settle" for an MKIII because it's all you can afford, you will only end up trashing it for another enthusiast in the future. If you really want an MKIV keep saving untill you can truely afford it, $30K is alot of money for an 18 year old unless your parents are loaded. I suggest you do some serious thinking about what you would really be truely happy with, test drive a few different cars and choose the one that fits your style the best.

$25-$30k.. u can find one cheapet trust me, i have been looking for MKIV for some time now and yea there are supras for $25-$30k that are awesome and running with 600hp+
With about 120,000-140,000 miles you can find a Mkiv for around $15k thats turbo and 6 speed. Like i said it will take time to find one but its worth waiting for.
that much miles is nothing for a toyota but its a lot for a turbo toyota so it will probably need some engine rebuilding. Thats what im going to do atleast. Ill buy one for a cheap price with high miles and will rebuild the engine myself for another $1-$2k depending on what internals i decide to go with and ill be good to go after that.
I dont know how much you know about supra engines or engines at all... and i dont know if you are looking to rebuilding it or you want something that u wont worry about at all... but a shop can do an engine rebuild for id say about $5k or so, not sure exactly how much but around there.
where do you live by the way?? I have found a few supras here as a good example of what im talking about:

id really like to thank you guys for your help. through all my searches ive come upon countless scams and it does get discouraging, but you guys have made it clear to me i wont find one under 15000. im fine with that, and its not that im "settling" for an mkiii. from what i know they are still great cars, and an mkiii was also the first supra i saw and the car that got me interested in supras. right now i have found a car that looks realistic, i have called the seller, and am planning on checking it out, and bringing it to a mechanic for a mecahnical evaluation. 5500 for an 88 supra turbo, manual transmission with 85000 miles on it.
before i check ti out however, what have been your experiences with supras? i know toyota engines last a long time(except for the head gasket), and since its a sports car im guessing the body can take a bit of a beating, but what is likely to go and how much do you think it would cost to fix it? im glad i posted here, because now im thinking further on my situation. what kind of maintenance do you have to do on it yourself and how often? also, if i get it its going in the garage for the winter, so what should i do to it for storage?

If you store it you should get fuel and oil stabilisers. They are available at any auto parts store. Disconect the battery. Once a week you should start the car and let it warm up to operating temp. This will keep the fluids from setteling out and keep the seals from drying out. When you do your start up you should move the car as well. This will help keep the tire sidewalls from bulging.
