LOL - well my friend, usually the only way to get power is to press the gas. :)
I dunno about the lights - you'd have to check your fuses would be my first guess.
Answering the power question...
I would definately start with a Cold Air intake or a warm air intake (I prefer the WAI for a variety of reasons - read this thread where we thoroughly discussed it http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=334145 )
After the intake, (asumming you don't have a whole lot of experience - don't take that as an insult) I would go with a set of 8.5 mm MSD ignition wires with a set of NGK Iridum XIII Spark plugs ( due to relative ease of installation over other mods). But shit, I forgot, your 2.4L has an IDI so you don't have any ignition wires, so scratch the wires. Just go with the plugs then.
Next in ease of installation would be a set of headers paired with cat-back exhaust. All those combined would bring a gain of about 30 HP - all for roughly in the ballpark of 1000 dollars.
If you don't wanna spend lots of money though, just go with a different intake and the plugs, plus maybe a billeted underdrive pulley, and that'll all bring a solid gain of 15 horse.
