I read a thread posted back in March '04 about remote starters for Yukon's. They said that DEI was the top brand for remote starters and that it could be interfaced with the OEM remotes. Is this correct?

I would like to know if anyone has any opion on remote starters that could work with my OEM remotes, driver 1 & driver 2.

I would like to do the install myself, the last time I installed one was in my 1993 Chevy Suburban and the manufacturer was VPA? I did install the same remote start in my mother in-law's Ford Windstar. They both worked fine and I thought the range was very good.

Thank You

Hi,
you will need one interface modules from DEI, two if it is a 2003 and up with the new data bus.
You can not use your OEM remotes for starting, the BCM doing the security does not know about remote starting.
You will get remote fobs that look like your OEM ones, do all the same functions except for driver one/driver two, plus the remote start.

As for brands, DEI owns about nine of them.

I had good luck with Audiovox, that is what JoDi's uses. Actually, I had good luck with JoDi's, too.

If you are looking for the greatest transmitter range, look for Compustar 2wss on ebay. They use spread spectrum and a pager like remote.

Well, if you want to use DEI which is what I believe is the best, you could actually use almost any of their lines. THey all have aux. input activations. The ones that are kinda setup for this is the Valet 561r units. You'd set it up to activate when you press the lock button 3 times.

Personally, I wouldn't do it because the range of your OEM remotes is only about 75' at best while the cheapest DEI one is about 500'.

As far as bypasses, I would use the DEI part# 555L for the passlock 2 system your truck would have if it's a '02 and older. If you have a '03 to '05, I would get the combo bypass from www.bypasskits.com They have one that does all kinds of things like bypassing PK2, keyless, horn, lights, and owner #1 reconition.

Thanks for the reply.

Been busy with work and watching the news about the tsunami. Still trying to look into the best remote starter to fit my needs. Just received my service manuals from Helm, looking them over to see where I'll be hooking up the wires.

Surfing the web and finding info on the different interface/bypass modules I am going to need for my '04 Yukon XL Passlock system. I'll check out bypasskits.com, thanks.

I found the Valet 561r, liked the idea that I can use the OEM remotes but didn't really think of the range of my OEM remotes. Who needs to lock or unlock your car 500 to 1000 feet away? But I sure would like to start it from that distance. Price not to bad, under 100.00 w/o bypass.

I also found and was trying to get more info on the Compustart FM with Two Way Remote. Sounds nice to have the remote tell me that my truck started without seeing the truck. Price a little higher then the 561r over 200.00 w/o bypass.

Let you know what I decided on, hopefully before spring. :)

Thanks again.
