Speedometer failed

I recently fitted a new Vehicle Speed Sensor (on transmission) following advice code from the computer feed out.
However no repsonse from the speedo - light cleared immediately but came back shortly after.
Is there a set up routine that must be done to reset the speedo? - Currently with the main dealer - they seem to be struggling to solve adn dont have inspirng responses to questions asked!!
