i just got a cold air intake off ebay for $30, i was just wondering if anybody has had one and knows if they are any good. also i have found a chip on ebay for $10 that makes your ecu think that the air coming in is colder than what it really is...i was just wanting to know if anybody has bought either of these and if they were worth the money.
thanks

Cold Air Intakes are always good - lots of people have them - let's just hope it's a good seller with a good rep that you bought from.

That "chip" is pure bullbutter. I got one off of Ebay, and it's just a resistor.

Here's what happens - you unplug your MAF sensor (which causes the computer to think that the air coming in is always 32 degrees) In order to compensate for the 'cooler' air, (which is denser) the computer uses more fuel in order to keep the ratio right. Only, since your not actually drawing in air that's 32 degrees, you end up running rich (which can kill performance sometimes). The most gains from this mod would only be like 1 to 3 horse. Not only that, but when it gets colder then 32 degrees out, you're actually going to be running lean, which also kills performance. By the way, you can just unplug the MAF and it will think it's 32 degrees without the resistor, but you'll get a check engine light. The resistor is only to get rid of the check engine light.

So anyways trust me, I've tried those resistors and they don't do dog shit. You end up for the most part either running too rich or too lean - it's not worth it.

ive got the v6 3.4 liter engine...
i didnt mention that i also wanted to take the governor off without having to buy a performance chip... it would be great if you knew how to disconnect the wire for that

Sorry to dissapoint you, but that requires a reporgrammed PCM. There is no "wire that you can cut". You'll have to go with something like a DHP reprogrammed PCM uhhh 200-300$ if I remember right. But there's alot of other great, inexpensive mods for the 3.4 out there. Aside from the CAI, you could get things like

MSD 8.5 mm wires + NGK Iridium XIII plugs
FFP billeted underdrive pulley
PFYC AFPR
Borla cat-back exhaust
S&S headers
62 mm throttle body
Ported Upper and lower intake manifolds
ummm there's lots of other good stuff, just can't think right now. check out these sites. They've got some good stuff on them for the 3.4

www.doctorspeed.com
www.pfyc.com
www.rsmracing.com
www.andysautosport.com
http://www.gaupgrade.com/

and umm there's a lot of other good sites out there - just gotta hunt around

go run some searches on www.grandamgt.com - you'll turn up all sorts of good stuff.

oh by the way just incase you're wondering, that stuff I listed above would probably add about 40 HP, and would run you anywhere between 1800 to 2200 dollars, not exactly sure how much. Just remember that the more mods you get, the more HP additional mods will add.

just one more thing though...i have also seen these electronic superchargers that run off of the altenator and cost a little under $200..ive asked one of my buddies about it and he said that the electronic superchargers are piles of crap and dont really work...i was just wondering if anybody has bought one of these or know anything about them.

Does this hold true for the 2.2 four banger?

well for the 2.2 (or did you mean 2.4) , but either way, roughly the same -

You won't be able to get MSD wires because there are no wires, (it's an IDI ignition system)

You would be able to find a billeted UD pulley, you could find an AFPR, you could get exhaust, you could get a bigger throttle body, you could probably find a set of headers, and that'd be it out of what I listed. What I just listed would probably add about 25-30 solid HP to the 2.2

There is nothing that can be disconnected for the speed gov. its part of the pcm. The pcm is a programable computer. you can go to summitracing.com and they have a hand held unit that will take it off. I know the car will top out at 106mph. with it off it will do 130mph. but keep in mind that you will need up upgrade your breaks because they will heat up alot at that speed. I live right by summit racing and its a great store. trust me. if you get somebody to try and take off the speed gov, and they do it wrong the car will top out at 35mph and 3500rpm.
