The voice and data recordings from the plane cockpit are still being kept secret. If the official line is the truth, the simple act of releasing them, with an independent analysis by an air accident investigator, should be enough to vindicate all those concerned.
As it stands, there is ample grounds for suspicion thatthe plane was brought down by a combination of terrorist action and federal intervention. If it was deemed necessary to destroy the plane to prevent greater loss of life,so be it.If it was deemed necessary to destroy the plane to prevent it from hitting a national icon, that is an act of vanity that will have to sit on someones conscience.
One thing is certain, the friends and families of those who died deserve the truth. The truth is that whatever action was taken [or not taken] they would have probably died anyway.

They do deserve to know what happened, but I doubt it was more then him just saying the wrong thing. Aside from what conspiracy buffs may want to believe, the impact made by the airliner was in a single spot. A commercial plane of that size being shot down would have landed in several (or even hundreds of) spots over over a large area.
As for the flight recorder not being released - that is not entirely true. http://archives.cnn.com/2002/US/04/18/rec.flight.93/ So the relatives did hear the recorder. And we should note "Access to cockpit voice recorders is usually restricted to government crash investigators and parties suing over plane crashes." So the fact they aren't releasing it to the general public is not an abberation.

if you've heard this voice clip, then you know when he said "shot down" he was talking about things that the terrorists had done. If if he did indeed mean what he said, he would have meant that the terrorists shot the plane down. And we all know that didn't happen. But supposing the plane was shot down... I don't think it can even be argued that it was to save a building. What do you think would cause more deaths? A plane crashing into a field, or into a crowded city? Come on. This stuff shouldn't even have to be explained... the only reason that it does is that there seem to many conspiracy theorists out there.

Are you kidding me? If it was indeed shot down to save more lives then why don't they admit to it? Most would clearly understand the reasoning behind the military actions so why lie?
You only lie to hide something.

You only lie to hide something.
Because there is nothing to admit to?

Because there is nothing to admit to?
Are we asking for admissions, or just the evidence that led those in authority to reach their conclusions?

That's exactly what I thought when reading the excerpt - he was talking about terrorist actions, not government actions, so I was very confused. I figured though that maybe I just didn't read it correctly, since all the tons of people that saw it otherwise can't be wrong...then again, maybe so.
As far as whether it was shot down or not, I'm kind of sitting on the fence. I don't have an opinion either way. I just want to see, like in every other situation, every little last scrap of evidence come to light before I make any decision.

Did everyone just skip over my previous post?
The families of the passengers and crew heard the flight recorded (link in the other post). Its not normal for the voice recorded to be released to the public so there is nothing abnormal about everyone else not having heard it.

The plane could have been shot down; a heat seeking missile strike on an engine wouldn't destroy the entire plane, but with an inexperienced pilot at the controls they could have crashed. There's alot of variables, and this is one more thing that we will likely not know the entire truth about. (I'd love to hear the cockpit recording!)

I just think it's annoying that just because these people's last moments aren't published for national consumption, they are going to retaliate by shouting "CONSPIRACY!"

Agreed. People are so often far too quick to judge (in either direction).

I've been reading the 9/11 comission report and it still doesn't seem clear as to what happened. The terrorist that was flying the plane seemed intent on putting the plane down since the second wave of passengers were overwhelming the 3 available hijackers. To top that off, the Terrorist pilot was maneuvering the plane as to knock the passengers off their feet. It also sounds like the plane was put down before a call to shoot the plane down was ordered.
