Problems in cold weather

I am having a slight problem with my integra. I own a 92 integra ls automatic, and when the weather is cold when I put it in park it takes about 2 or 3 minutes for the "P" on the dash to light up. The car actually kicks into park right away, but it won't let me take the key out or move it into a different gear until the "P" lights up on the dash. None of the other gears give me that problem. I was wondering if anyone can help me out here?

sounds like it might be something with either the gear position switch or possibly the neutral safety switch but sounds more like the gear position switch... if the car is going immediately into park when you put it into that gear then the linkage should be fine but if the light isn't indicating you're in park there might be a break in the wiring causing more resistance... however though if when you put it into park and it's not allowing to take the key out then you might not be completely in park in which case it might indeed be the linkage which can be adjusted.... next time you go to put it in park try wiggling the shifter a little and pushing it lightly further forward into park and see if that speeds up the process off the Park indicator light from going on, if it does then in all probabilty it's just the shift linkage which needs to be adjusted... you might also want to do a continuity check on the gear position switch.

Does it do the same when you put it in Neutral? Will it let you take the key out when in "N"?

i just posted a similar reply to a another question on the general board about the same problem. i own a 91 integra 4dr. same problem. ive noticed that pulling back on the shifter makes the park light come on. so u can take the key out. so yea i took it to the shop where all previous work on the car had been done. they told me that it had something to do with master key sensor. i still think its something to so with the park lock. but the guy who had the car previously had the same problem and the reason he didnt fix it is because its a 300 dollar fix :eek7: so yea i was like i think i can pull on the shifter for a while longer. ive been having a problem with the key sensor dinging if u know what i mean .... the sound it makes whgen u leave the car in the ignition and open the door the ding ding noise. thats the only reason i think it could be the key sensor. but yea maybe some info of use there.

It doesn't have any problems in neutral. "N" lights up right away. It will let me take the key out. I tried pulling the lever back when in park, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. It only happens when the weather is cold. The rest of the year the gears work fine, but in the winter it gives me problems.
