clock/instrument cluster

I have a 95 525i and the cluster panel which has the digital clock display, trip meter, ambient temp., etc. went dark. Is this an easy fix? Does the entire unit have to be replaced or is there a seperate unit for the digital display? And how do you go about removing the unit from the dash? Any help would be appreciated.

IF you can still read the display [in angled light], the cluster needs to be removed and the backlighting illumination bulb/sockets replaced for the matrix display. Not a difficult repair.
