97 Ranger will only blow hot air except when on Max A/C then cold air comes out.
Would it be a relay in the selector unit or a broken blend door in the heater case? How would I fix these?

I had a 97 Ranger with the exact same problem. It's the motor that operates the blend door. There is a plastic shaft that extends from the motor and when that breaks off the motor will still operate, but it won't turn the blend door. I had my mechanic fix mine and it was around $500.00!!! The part (new motor) is only like $70.00 or $80.00, but it's the labor that kills you because they have to take the entire dash out of the truck in order to get to it. Sorry for the bad news. I guess it's a common problem for that year :shakehead Good luck.
