Okay guys, i found a vr4 around my city that im in love with. It is a pearl white color and is a 93. The car has 140,000 miles on it and has a perfect conditioned interior as well as new tranny, tires, brakes, etc. The guy is wanting 5900 for it. Good or bad deal? What worries me about the car is the fact that is has a "minor oil leak". He says when you leave the car sit for long periods of time without driving it, it will leak oil. Now, does this seem like a scam or not, because i know these cars have a tendency of leaking lots of oil. And also, if i did buy this how much am i prolly looking at to fix the leaking? Also, insurance worries me on these twin turbos. I heard the going rate for these things is around 260 for about a 21 year old with no tickets or anything. THAT IS OUTRAGEOUS!!!!! How much cheaper on insurance usually is the SL? Also , please dont just say look in the FAQ, I want to know what you people are paying insurance wise (ballpark prices welcome...)

1st of all, with the price of the car, 5900 is good, but the car has high mileage. I personally wouldn't buy it.
Also, with insurance it depends on alot, read the FAQ about insurance that I wrote to help you out.

do the turbos seem to last pretty long in these cars for the mileage? I will prolly sell the car again before 180k miles so i dont have to do the 60k mile tuneup. So, am I looking at prolly having to get new turbos or do you think these stock ones will be ok for a longer time?

well, im not sure about the VR4's turbos life span but most turbos life is between 120-160k miles...$5900 is a great deal on a VR4. even if it needed a new engine, it would still probably end up costing you less than a "nice" vr4. if you would sell a car just because you dont want to do the 60k mile maitenance then a car of this calibur probably isnt the type of car you want. cars like these are not maintenance free and with 140k miles your gonna run into some mechanical problems. just so you know, be ready to fork out some cash to keep it running.
as for your oil leak, it could be so many things its not even funny. does it smoke when you drive it???

How old is your mom? becasue my mom is like 50 ans she pays 50 dollers a month for her ford lightning.
and the 25 spline tranny is more durable then the 18 spline tranny. Better to launch on :)

My friend, the key to owning one of these cars is to have a good support group. i bought my 92 vr-4 for$3k but had a bad valve and got charged $2k for repairs w/ labor and new parts. now i belong to www.3si.org and the knowledge of this car is vast and everybody knows everything about the stealth/3000gt cars. just be aware that any car like this is going to require your love and devotion b/c alot of the money is LABOR. Be sure that when you get it fixed you do a complete 120k service. (water pump, oil pump, plugs, wires, etc.) Where do you live? Go on 3si and see if you find a group close to you.
