Everybody's talking- I mean EVERYBODY"S TALKIN ABOUT ricers, rice-boys, tuners, whatever you want to call them.
Understandably so- for most of us on the receiving end, "tuner cars" are primered 19 sec. Cavvs with a belch can and carbon residue all over the rear.
BLAAAAT!
But, I'm old enough to remember a time without tuners- a land before IROCS and Turbo GN's, a time even before lowered minitrucks- when noone had ever heard of a 5.0 L (what's a liter!!?) Mustang.
This was a time when Monte Carlo's had T-Tops, and needed only three speeds to impress the ladies (LOL). can I get a witness????
What's funny to me now, are the similarities. What self respecting class of '78 grad would have traded a set of Gabriel HiJacker Air Shocks for ground-scrapin' lowered struts- or that new set of Keystones and RWL G60's for some rubber-bands & 18's. Hmm. Time and place, my man. NOBODY actually had Hooker headers, but EVERYBODY sported the decal in their quarter windows (NOS?). There were no neon kits yet, but there sure were alot of colored trailer lights on rear axles.
All the dudes were like, "i've got corvette motor!" When in reality, eeeeeeverybody had like a corporate 305 2bbl with Cherry Bombs.
BLAAAAT!
Anyone else see things similarly??

Yeah I guess it really is that simple......I just see alot that's similar between the two trends, and its all a little funny to me- seems like lotsa hype and not much to back it up.
I was around for all of the late seventies cheese- although way too young to actually participate (I swear!), and now I'm realistically past the age when I spend 3/4 of my check each week on one of my cars.
Although I did have an IROC
