i'm new and i didn't know where to post this but i have a question. does anyone know if it is illegal to be a specator of street racing. if so is it a felony or a misdemeanor. i've been looking through new jersey state law and i can't find anything. i was ticketed for being at a street race and i would like to know how much the fines are. please comment if you have any information.

i want to fight it. that's why i'd like to know exactly what the law is. it would be kind of hard to say that i was walking because we were stuck in between two cars in our car so... we weren't racing. we were just there. so i want to know what laws apply to speculators of street racing.

i know lol. that's why i'm asking does anyone know the new jersey state law? most states have similar laws anyway. if i see what laws are in others states i'll have an idea of what to expect on my court date.

You might gt nailed for loitering. Kinda hard to fight those. How old are you? Possible curfew. I think you can get ticketed if you see something illegal happening and dont do anything (like call the cops). There are tons of ways they can nail ya. Go to the courthouse, and ask them exactly what the ticket is for, then you can learn how to fight it.

i'm 19. well it was on lonely street where there aren't any public phones. so i can say that there was no possible way for me to report such activities.

spectating will most likely get you charged, you know what was going on was illegal could have left or atleast made an attempt to therefore yous get charged.

Yes, you will get charged with a misdemeanor...it is called Aiding and Abetting...don't know what it means exactly, but it's what you will get charged with for being the spectator of a street race.

Well Pending where you live its different everywhere. In California if you are caught spectating its a $500 fine for passengers and $1000 for the driver. If caught racing, (engaging in a speed contest) 30 day impound and 30 days in jail. If your under age as well, you also get a ticket for being out late. There's a lot of tickets out there they can give out. If I was you, just say you didn't know where you was going, or just make up something believable. Good Luck.

dude, up here in minnesota, cops will catch you if u drive a beat up, f'd up import. last time my dad and i got caught for "attending" a street racing scene. I knew we were headed towards where people were Street Racing cuz of all those fart cans passing by us. but we didnt get a ticket, we just got pulled over cuz our muffler was cracked. but still, cops up here suck, they're WAY to biased.

I live in New Jersey and i was actually watching races and got a ticket. I fought it and all i did was say that my friend lived near by and I was picking him up. You just have to sound truthful, and about the not calling the cops, the judge asked why didn't you report to the cops, say you didn't have a cell phone.
