Families of dead US troops raise funds for Iraqi refugees

LOS ANGELES — Families of US troops killed in the offensive on the Iraqi city of Fallujah are to travel to Jordan next week with $600,000 worth of humanitarian aid for refugees of the attack.


The November assault on Fallujah left 71 US military dead, according to the families, and the Iraqi government said more than 2,000 Iraqis were killed.

“This delegation is a way for me to express my sympathy and support for the Iraqi people,” said Rosa Suarez of Escondido in California.

“The Iraq war took away my son’s life, and it has taken away the lives of so many innocent Iraqis. It is time to stop the killing and to help the children of Iraq,” she added in a statement releations by the families.

The families said with peace groups, physicians’ organisations and relatives of the September 11, 2001 attacks victims, they raised $100,000 in an Internet appeal. Humanitarian groups such as Middle East Children’s Alliance and Operation USA contributed $500,000 worth of medical supplies.

The families are to fly to Amman on December 26 and hand over the supplies to humanitarian and medical workers there.

I wouldn't count out a terrorist attack against the American civilians. But I sincerely HOPE that things will remain peaceful in order to start things back in a sane direction.

Please stop misinterpretting what he said. We've had numerous discussions about it and it is really getting old.

Please tell me where I have misinterpreted it.Is he wrong, or am I imagining that more American soldiers have died since he announced that,than died before?Is there some definition of combat that I haven't heard of? Was the assault on Fallujah a mere skirmish?

Yes that is the exact quote however it was addressing a specific aircraft carrier. It was meant for the troops of that carrier, not to be taken as military operations in general as we have gone over in the past

please explain to me how that relates to a sprecific vessel, and why such a sweeping statement would be attatched to the preceding statement if the intention was to relate to that one vessel?

Before May 1, 2003 who was the US fighting? I'll answer the US was fighting the Iraq army under Saddam their leader. The fight was one nation's army against the other nation's army.

Now who is fighting against the US army after May 1, 2003? Answer to that is several groups of insurgents led by Iraq citizens and several groups on non-Iraq insurgents. Their is no national army the US is fighting.

The invasion was over by May 1, 2003, the iraq army gave up.

I agree Bush's speech aboard an aircraft carrier wasn't meant as just the ship's combat being over since this was a televised speech to the American people. I would assume Bush meant the war was over and it was over.

If Bush could see into the future I am sure he would of chose different words in place of his over-quoted quote. Here in the US we have a term called MONDAY-MORNING QUARTERBACK. Which means a person who sits around after the football game and critizes the mistakes claiming he could of done better after the fact.


I also love the predictions cast before the invasion. Just because someone made a guess and it just so happens, we have to sit here and listen to "See I told you so" posts. As far as I know we can't predict the future and have no way of knowing what will happen tommorrow. We can all make a guess and if we are lucky and it comes true we can sit here posting all day the "see i told you so" posts.

Unless you don't consider current operations to be "Major combat operations"?
