how come our cars can only have a 170 thermostat? is it because if we use like a 195 the motor might warp being aluminum or something?
sucks not having lots of heat in the winter

but, the manual page showes it to be at 194 deg. ??
i am having trouble with it taking so long for the heater to warm up. i do not want to get into the heater core, so i will change the thermostat to see if that helps. its not a really big deal, just want to imporve it if i can.
thxs for all the help.

Yeah same here, my car takes forever to warm up too. I put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator to cut down the airflow and it still takes forever. I think the new aftermarket thermostat is crapping out.

My current thermostat is a 180 thermostat and I think the 180 refers to the temp it starts to open, 194 is for fully open.

I think 180 is about midway in a stock thermostat in our cars. You have a B series so it may be different. In my case, my fan is switched on with the ignition but my engine takes about normal time to warm up and doesn't go to overheat (but started to one time when driving for long time on slow dirt road when fan plug came undone accidentally so I know it works). But why would the thermostat be crapping out if it takes longer to warm up? Maybe I'm reading it wrong but I figured the thermostat would pop open sooner allowing more cooling to the engine. Do you want your thermostat to open later?
