Every day, when I first drive the 97 bravada, the dome light and the lights under the dash stay on for about half an hour. The local auto parts store suggested it was the door switch, but its not. What can I do to determine the problem and fix it?

There's an Interior Lamp Control Module that has a pink, orange, white and 2 black wires going to it near the parking brake bracket. I'm guessing it is what keeps the lights on for a minute after you close the door. Turning the keyswitch on is supposed to turn off the lights and since it stays on for close to the same amount of time seems to indicate a timer function problem. Unplugging it looks like it'll kill a bunch of lights. I'd call my local boneyard and check for the device in Jimmy's and Blazers too.

Not sure if this changes the diagnosis, but today the problem seemed to hinge on the window. Roll it down, the light comes on, roll it up, the light goes off.

One of the black wires shows to be a door handle switch ground wire and looks to be in the same circuit as your interior lights. Do you think a door switch wire may have come loose and is now grounding on some window linkages?

Well, this just gets better and better. I look out the window before I go to bed, and the lights Ive been having trouble with are on. The cars been parked for a few hours. I go out, slam the door, go back in. Half an hour later, they are back on. I cant have the lights on all night killing my battery, so I take the fuse out. Its supposed to be a 10 amp fuse, but theres a 15 in there. Its not blown, obviously, but on the part of the metal prongs of the fuse, down near the plastic, theres what looks like rust or corrosion. Im not sure if the fuse matters at all, I really dont know much about cars. How can I go about determining and fixing the problem? It would be great if you tell me "Hey, its just the fuse", but I suspect I wont be that lucky. The thing that worries me is that its getting to be worse and worse.

Doesn't the light go out by itself in 30 minutes or
do you now mean that the lights are going off & on randomly?

The light was going off by itself after about 30 minutes of driving, yes. It never was supposed to stay on that long, obviously. And yes, last night the lights were on by themselves, so I took the fuse out.

i have a 97 bravada and have the same problem. it first happened when it got cold outside. just when i would hit a bump the light would flicker on and off. then about a couple of weeks later i looked outside and the light was on. i went out and opened my door and closed it and went to bed and when i got up in the morning the light was on again. it would flicker on and off while i drove until the car was completely heated up. i finally pulled the fuse and but i havnt had it checked out yet.

Man, that fuse controls your brake lights too!!!! I finally just broke the little push in part of the door switch, and the problems solved! I couldnt take it any more, after two hours straight of steady chime. Mine started when it got cold, same with bumps and all. It progressed to steadily staying on, then to the chime.

Do you think it was a faulty door switch? How do the other door switches affect the lights?
