I have an '88 automatic 6 cylinder 170,000 miles and the idle is going crazy. It will go from normal rpm to 3000 rpm at a red light. My husband has readjusted the idle every time it happened but then it just does it again. If anyone has any ideas as to what is causing this high idle problem please let me know.

I don't know if an 88 has a cadillidic converter on the muffler or not, but I've seen a plugged one of those do that to cars. Check the tailpipe when you are idling and see if there is any exhast out, then speed it up and see what it does... if its plugged you need to take it off and knock out the carbon in it.
...or worse you could have jets all screwed up...in that case buy a new carb, trust me you don't want try to redrill those

Hi, I just wanted to say thanks for replying to my question(s). I think buying a new carb is the way to go to solve my jeep problem. Can you recommend any particular make/manufacturer? I want to buy one that will not only work well but will last.
