Detailed Bomex RX-7

Hi there,

I really got the modeling virus lately. Can't stop building and modifying at the moment. This is my Aoshima Bomex RX-7. I bought it because of the decals. The decals will be used on my Bomex Soarer. The RX-7 looks pretty good so I started it about two months ago. I foudn some references and the body isn't quiet the way it should be so I modified it a little. Here's a list of modifications to the body:

- air vents in front of the wheels are made
- hole for windowwhipper in the back is worked away (I just like it better that way...)
- gaps in wheel arches are filled with putty
- top of rear bumper is smoothened the way it should be
- headlight houses are modified from a Raybrig NSX

there are some slight other modifications. The rear bumper is a real bitch to fit, but I worked it out. The headlights were terrible as well. There didn't came any lighthouses with the kit, so I had to make some myself. I used headlights from a Tamiya Raybrig NSX as basis. The color will be the same as on references I show. (4 parts aluminium and 1 part clear blue) Will be sprayed with my new airbrush :ylsuper: I'm not sure about the wheels, wing etcetera. Well here it is.

Probably not as the hood isn't to special. It would be a lot of work and not really add something too the look.

I'm following this with great interest, I took delivery of this same kit for Christmas this year (already have the Aoshima Veilside kit but uncompleted also). I noticed the rear bummer is also a complete nightmare, and you can see the original bumper behind, have you removed any of this yourself?

I also noticed the side skirts don't fit properly as - if lined up from the front - the door lines don't match - do you have the same problem?

I'm fairly new to modelling so I hope the questions above don't seem daft.

I know about the bad fitting of the parts. I cut away the rear bumper so it wasn't noticable anymore. For the sides I took a styrene rod 1,6mm thick and about 2 cm long. I placed that between the body and the skirt. That way the joint is strong, and the skirt fits properly. The front bumper is sanded a little so it goes fluently from the bumper to the body. I can advice you to do the same with the rear bumper as I did. To get the top of the rear bumper right is very easy, though it looks so much better!

BTW, if you don't understand what I all mean, I can send you some nice close-ups of the adjustments and attachments.

Thanks, I get ya. I fitted my skirts yesterday, although instead of placing something between the gap I left it as such and filled it with a ton of filler (humbrol stuff). It'll probably hold in about 48 weeks once it's dried :smile:

I'm really interested to see how it comes out, this is my first kit (very little previous experience) so be interesting to pick up some tips on the way... Am going for a cream interior on mine, from the touring version as sold in the states.

That looks really good for a start, will you do it curbside or will you do it with engine detail? As for exterior detail I think you should put a medium ALUMINUIUM gt-wing on it and also put CF canards in the front, maybe also some CF splitters on the sides. Sorry to hear about the bad fit, I feel your pain but don´t give up on it.

I've quiet some progress to inform you guys about :D The body is now almost stripped. I'll put some tape on the head lights, as I won't be able to sand al the paint away. This time I'll try to do Silver paint over Black and see how it turns out. All Tamiya this time :D Here some pics of the body, as it was, and as it is now:

I've been trying to put some drilled brake discs on this car. But the plastic melted as I was drilling the brake discs out. So I took the brake calipers of, and glued them to other brake discs. Little bit of putty and nowbody is able to see it :D

I putted in some nice scratchbuild subwoofers. The amplifier and the 'suspension connector thing' are also scratchbuild. The entire back of the interior has been modified for the subs. Unfortunately I don't have any progress pics on that to show how I did it. This car is also the very first car I ever used my airbrush on. The interior was the first thing I ever airbrushed and I'm very satisfied with it. I hope to post some more progress soon.
