have the lancer, but willing to buy and fix an older Crx. Tell me your thoughts, I just want a fast, good performance car, I wont put money into and relize I could have done something else for less money

Just buy a CRX. Start there.

well , if im not mistaken. the Lancer OZ rally editions are very slow and they are front wheel drive. When you get into a crx you will feel the potential for speed and the nimble steering and handling. there is very little you can do to the lancer. There is alot you can do to a Crx, sell the lancer and make a badass street .

well, once having the CRX would engine swap or anthying be a good idea before putting in money, and if so, what would be an expected price to pay, I know specific price is hard to say, but what would you guess

pay a good $1500-2500 for the car
Then another $1500 for a B16 with 160hp
---------or----------
Another $3500 (give or take) for a B18C with 200hp
(prices if u installed urself)
Compared to ur lancer... that 160hp would feel like 250hp (probably) in ur lancer....and the 200 would prolly feel like 300... when comparing the two...think Power/weight ratio more than power and tourqe...
So lets see, considering car cost and engine it will cost anywhere from $3000-6000 for a car much faster than yours.....plus its just cooler!

or $2000 for the car
$750 for B20
$400 for B18c1 head
$500 for misc
and that's $1650 for more power and torque than a B16 or a B18c1....
good thing about civics is that the possibilities and combinations are almost endless

personally....i get a little skittish about mixing different Model engine components.... i kno the can make more power and tourqe using LS/VTEC or CR/VTEC....but still... id rather not.... too much mixed talk about it.

Theres LOTS you can do to your lancer OZ. They have turbokits for them. You can rebuild your engine and all that goodies. Just do a search. I'm too lazy to look ;)

:werd: the only thing the crx is better then the hatch in is autocross; shorter wheelbase.

a turbo crx or hatch with rolling start can do same thing.

He already has the Lancer. I wouldn't get another car. He can use that money to modify his car.

ya but if he sold his lancer he would have quite a bit of money to make a crx very fast. Lets say he gets 8000 for his lancer. He could buy a crx in good condition and still have over 5000 dollars to build it.

hell, for 5 or 6k he could buy a CRX or hatch with a B16 already in it (prbably depends on where u live) ...and still have money left to build further... im sure a person could get more than 8k for a lancer OZ.... well...maybe not i dunno.....

^thats stupid.^ Why would u get rid of a new car for a car thats about 15+ yrs old.

because you're talking to people who love older hondas :)

Thats still not a reason for someone to get rid of a new car for an older car. I mean if it was a muscle car..than thats a different story.

well muscle cars can go fast in a straight line, old honda's are light and can be made to turn real good ;)

I know that there's a lot you CAN do with a lancer, but in the end, is it going to feel like I accomplished what I want without putting my life savings into it? I know a CRX is lighter and has tons of possiblilities, when the weight of my lancer is around 2800 :-\
KinkBykr
12-28-2004, 05:21 PM
and plus, I wouldn't be selling the lancer, just wondering if buying the crx and working with it would be a good idea becasue even though I would be buying another car, the money will go a lot furthur on the CRX from what I'm seeing, and I would also have the lancer to drive if in the process of something big, like might have the CRX not running, but still have the lancer to drive

Me personally... I'd rather get a new car with a warrenty... I guess I'm just getting tired of always fixing my 15 year old honda... its one friggen thing after another... I love it when it runs... but damn is it a pain in the ass!

it all really depends on where you want to spend you money...are you planning on buying a CRX too? What you should do is figure out which car you want to work on, and then have the other car as your daily driver.
Any car can get a good deal of upgrades from bolt-ons, etc. If i were you, i'd keep the lancer as my daily driver. It's already pretty quick, plus if you bought it new you still have warranty so you don't really wanna mess with the engine parts, etc, anway or else it'd void the warranty in case something goes wrong or breaks.
The CRX will be easier to work on, since there's plenty of parts available (cheap if you buy them from someone else or eBay), lots and lots of write-ups, DIY, and how-tos (that's what this forum is about pretty much).

:iceslolan: no kidding, its pretty bad when our 15 yr old hondas have better handling than these new, "refined" automobiles...
In ten years, even with the norm of imports coming with 250+ hp from the factory, our hondas are still gonna be throwback classix...if not...then i guess im screwed...
at least we still have the "Back in the Day" articles to look forward to!....

Yea but the thing about new cars with warranties are, if you mod them the warranty is void anyways so it really woudlnt matter.........with or without
90civicracer
12-29-2004, 02:58 AM
For a lot of cars it is a case by case. Some warranties will still be covered unless it was shown that the damage did or could have came from the aftermarket part. I have seen many examples of this over on SRTforums.

Hey man,
Either or u got urself 2 great platforms to work with. Rolling up into a crowd of racers in a Lancer n/a will get all the shit talkers spitten there negative opinions, but thats when u surprise all those fellaz wit ur turbo charged car thats delivering 100% power to the front wheels instead 60-40 ratio or w.e it maybe. That Lancer can be a really fun car to work with if u got the cash! weight distribution on those cars prolly suck if u own a n/a, make it hook! Neways man ive owned alot of cars and my favorite is my civic, I do alot of Philly street racing and its funny how everyone right uh way runs there mouth until i unleash the lil sohc lol :) crx/civic are soo versatile man and u got so many options to make your ride stand out from the rest. Get a CRX and take the JDM route, they look so agressive and most these kids round here have bad taste wit their ugly a$$ ebay body kits, mods. Get the Rex and take ur time with it.. u won't regret it! (cr/vtec-t3-4) hehe >: )~(!)
