Is there any way to shut off the Automatic 4WD control Trac? This is nothing more than annoying and is very hard to control in slippery conditions. We would like either the 2wd or the 4WD.
With the automatic it slips in and out and is very jerky.
Also have concerns on the high idle when the vehicle is started. I realize that it must idle high until a certain temp is reached but this takes toolong and is much different than the other EFI vehicles I own.

Try to take it easy on the gas.
The 4-wheel in this truck works by senceing
the speed differfental between the front and rear
wheels. The more tourque applied, the harder the transision will be. You can not shut it off.
This truck was built for occational, light duty
off road use.

Any ideas on the fast idle? Usually in cold weather an EFI will start up high then idle down right away. This one seems to idle high for some time making it dangerous in slippery conditions. Could it be a sensor or vacuum line?

My 2000 xlt does the same thing in cold weather.
The idle never goes above 1100rpm.
I've learned to live with it.
