Front Heater Quit On Me

Help- I am freezing!

I am familiar with how vaccum hoses open and close vents, they all work fine. The rear heater works and I can control those vents.

My problem is I can't get the front heater to blow warm air.

Does anyone know where I can check for problems?

Thanks in advance.

Is the fan motor in the dash making noise as if it is running and trying to pump out hot air? If it is not, then check the fuses for the blower motor on the heater. If the fuse is fine but the fan is not blowing air thaqn most likely a bad heater blower motor. Second, are you sure the vents are closing to permit interior air to be recirulated with the heater core?

Thank you for the reply akader.

Yes the fan blows fine. The A/C works too but I can't get heat to come from any of the front vents.

If it makes a difference, it's an EB with climate control.

Thank you again.

I had the very same problem. I have a 99 exp. First off make sure you aren't loosing any anti freeze because it might be leaking out of the front heater core. you should be able to smell when you have the front vent on. Right below the front heater core there is a electrical device which activates the vent lever to bypass the air through the heater core. If this gets wet it will stop working. It is kinda costy they have to pull the whole dash out just to replace the vent lever (2 dollar part) along with the heater core...8 hour job.

Thanks Spadoni.

There is no leak or smell of coolant.

I suspected the bypass but didn't know where to look. I will check the area you suggested. So you are sure it's an electrical part and not a vaccum?

On my 99 exp with 4.6 it was an electrical part which shorted out due to the heater core leaking on it. The mechanic said it was located directly below the heater core. When i replaced the heater core he didn't notice the electrical device that open and shuts the vent door to by pass the air thru the heater core needed to be replaced, it was only blowing cold air. So then the mechanic called me back in to replace the cheap part but not until after charging me 8 hours labor for taking out the heater core again.

Yikes.

Sounds like this repair will need to wait.

Would you likewise have a fluid leak that would be noticed outside of the vehicle on the passenger side??? I too am haveing a similar problem, and am certainly smelling the antifreeze in the vents, but there is no moisture on the carpet, just against the firewall and to the ground....Thanks

Make sure the knob is actually turning the control. Mine cracked and was spinning on the shaft and not actually turning the shaft. 1998 EB. Had rear heat, no front.

This ended up as the problem on our 98 without heat, but only after they replaced the heater core, thermostat and whatever else to the tune of $850!

I think you can pull the know off and turn the shaft witout it to see if this is your problem. Cheap plastic parts that strip easily.
