Letter from FoMoCO

Has anyone recvd a letter from FoMoCo about the back seat latch malfunctioning? Has anyone had the problem?

I got a letter and have not had a problem with mine and am curious how wide spread this issue is. Considering all the other BS that breaks frequently enough to issue recalls I am a bit put off by this letter.

I love my car but sincerely hate FoMoCo right now!

I have not received it...that I know of. I did get a Ford envelope the other day, but I figured it was a service reminder, so I tossed it.

I was very close to performing the same maneuver because I thought it was a solicitation. That inner voice, ok my wife, suggested I read before tossing it. I know their heart is in the right place but honestly is there a problem with back seat latches? Of all the time I have spent reading forums and all the conversations I have had with friends and neighbors that own LS’s not once has the back seat latch been a topic of conversation.

I can think of at least 5 other items that should be addressed.

Lets start with the front of the car.

Headlights
Valve Covers
Coils
Tranny
HVAC Vents

That is without even having to think hard. These are porblem I continuely see pop up for myself and other folks that have had the cars for a long time or owners of it after the expiration of the warranty.

Amen. Perhaps somebody was in an accident and the rear seats folded down allowing a 30# package of frozen chicken legs hurtle through the cabin and embed itself in the head of an unsuspecting passenger???

Most recalls are instigated by a lawsuit...

I do recall reading an article of a child in the back seat who was crippled when the seat folded over in an accident, so one would probably not notice a problem until a crash has ocurred, but I also wish they would do something about the foggy headlights!

yeah it was problem some nut in another LS with foggy headlights that hit them. It was dark the light was scattered due to high moisture content in the case. She didn't see the car on the shoulder as she was pulling over to see if her light were out.

Slammed into another LS which resulted in the unfortunate crippling of a child.

I see safety hazard all over the headlight problem and the unpredcitable shutdowns.

Hey guys,

I am a second owner of a 2000 LS V8 with Sport package. My questions is:

How do I know if My car has been taken back for recall Services?

I know there have been a few for this model, as well for the V6. Take a look at this---> http://www.alldata.com/TSB/003212_en.html

I was thinking about finally taking my car to the dealer for my SRS problem, and I'm planing on asking them if they keep a log of the cars that have had the recall service done.

What do you guys think?

Thanks.
Yoni A.

I got the letter, my wife has a 2004 V-6 and said she has had the problem. I just checked it and the passenger side was not lached, I had to slam it 4 times to get it to latch. My Grandson who is 9 sits in the middle and the shoulder belt was between the seats, not good. This shoulder belt problem concerns me more that the seat back thing. Both need to be corrected. They give you a sticker to put in the owners manual!!

So they put a sticker on the manual? Huh...
Whell, What if the original manual does not come with the car?

I had to reorder mine through the dealer because it did not come with it. Another thing I had to reorder recently was the Lug-nut Key. I didn't come with the car ither and could not use the car for an entire week. I have to pay $25 @ the dealer to get it matched and $18 to order it.

So with that said, Besides placing sticker on the manual, what other ways do they use to keep track of the car that have been serviced due to the racall?

Thanks,
Yoni A.

I don't have locking lugs, am I missing something? 2004 V-6, should I have them?

If oyu do not have the manual look under the hood most of these recall jobs state that they must put a FoMoCo sticker under the hood with teh TSB, service center and such on it.

There are no stickers uner the hood, and the manual I just got it. manual did not come with the car so I had to buy it brand new. Anywhere else I should look for?

Do you guys thik is too late for me to take it to the dealer and bring that up?

I will be taking it to the dealer soon for the SRS problem and I was wondering that, since there have been quite a feew recals, Maybe my probelm could have been fixed by one of those if it would've been taken for service.

Also, when they do recalls, Is it possible that they did from one VIN # to another and my VIN was not included and therefore ws not serviced?

Thanks,
Yoni A.

Hey Yoni! Yes! when a recall is issued it may not be for all models and VIN's of that particular vehicle, your neighbors may be recalled but not yours, have your local Ford/Lincoln Dealer run your VIN through OASIS and the print out will show if it is eligible and or if it has been done, this will also show all warranty work that was performed on the vehicle while under the factory warranty, a nice print out to have! it may give you a heads up on a potential troublesome area of the car, I worked for a Ford dealer in service for 4 years and had many recalled vehicles come through the shop, also you will always receive a letter from Ford if your vehicle is part of a recall!, the VIN's and owner info is always updated through the licence bureaus and sent to Ford.

I fold my rear seets down quite often. Interestingly when i first got the car i had this problem where the seats would not latch. Literally overnight (maybe i slammed them in frustration... not sure), they began to work and now latch fine. I will mention this at the dealership when i go this month.

Yes, my 2000 LS driver side seat has the problem. If you slam on your breaks it falls open. I did get the recall letter right after Christmas.

I never received the letter, but while I was at the dealer for a tranny flush, he went ahead and told me about the recall and fixed it right then.

Fixed what? The letter was just to put a sticker in the owners manual.
