hi, i got my 2000 maxima 4 months ago from the 1st owner, who kindly replaced all six ignition coils for me and since then it ran well till 3 days ago. when i was backing the car in the morning the car shaked a lot! but when i shift the gear to move forward, the shaking disappeared--then when i backed it again, it did not shake at all. but the following morning when i backed it, it shaked still and it has been 3 days in a roll:( any person has similar problems? can my max live with me for another couple of years?

I also had vibration problem with my 2000 Cefiro (which I think it has similar 6 cyl. VQ engine used in Maxima.) The Nissan computer shown an error in ignition system was later checked out by the mechanics that #1 cylinder ignition coil was bad. The ignition coil was replaced and the vibration has "improved", I said improved because there is still some weak vibration occasionally however I suspect that is caused by the worn spark plug that Nissan suggested me to replace. I will replace the worn plug shortly and will let you know if that would eliminate the problem completely.

"...2000 maxima dying?"
- Yes. Starts from day one. Thats the bad news. However there are a lot of things the owner can do to extend that life. I have one -93 purring better than new, see my web page and apply things applicable (most are identical). Have fun!

I changed spark plugs and the engine is definitely running smoother and idling much quietly, and last two tanks of gas seemed to have shown 7-8% improvement in gas mileage. However, the weak vibration still return occasionally at warm start (there is no vibration at cold start !) I have been trying an old practice of step down on gas pedal slowly all the way to the floor (and release) before a warm start, that seem to have prevented the vibration in last two day, I need to do that for couple more day to see if that really works, if so, it could mean there is a failure in warm idle mechanism which I will ask the Nissan mechanics to look into that again.
