After 60,000 miles the maintenance required light on my Dodge RAM 3500 came on. There is nothing new that is wrong with it, so I ask How do I turn this light off without taking it to the dealer?

Correct the problem, it is dealer material.

Sometimes simply disconnecting the battery works. The newer trucks are programmed that after so many key turns the light will turn off by itself. If there isn't a problem just wait it out. Usually around 30 cycles fo the key.

Disconnecting the battery did not work. It's been about two months since it started so I don't know if more key turns will do it. Somebody told me that on some cars they had to do like 3 key turns in rapid succession and that turned it off. Thanx for a response though, I appreciate it.

You do need to hit the key three times but it doesn't turn the light off, it just aids you in finding out what the problem is. This link will tell you all you need to know:
http://www.allpar.com/fix/codes
At the bottom of the page, there's a heading that says "The code lists", and there's three links. I don't know what year your truck is so you'll have to decide which link you follow. When you click one it will take you to a new page that tells you how to go about getting the codes, and finding out what they mean. It's all you need to know as far as that goes. Correcting the problem will be up to you.
danwilliams, I got your pm. Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it.

I consulted the manual buried amongst much junk behind my seat and found out that the light comes on after a specified mileage (60,000 in this case) to remind you to service the emmissions. Then to reset the light, a tool that only Dodge dealers have is required. Bastards. Glad I found this site though.
