Completed Porsche 914 IMSA racer from the early 1970's. Model company is FIT. 1/43 scale. Main sponsor should be Kirby / Hotchkiss Racing, not what is on the car.

very nice porsche, especially for 1/43rd scale.
Do you mind if I ask what the color is or is it a custom mix?

Its a custom mix of Testors enamels to match a color chip from the kit.

Very nice, I seem to be all thumbs when it comes to 1/43. Small scale stuff never ceases to amaze me.

Do you know if anyone makes 1/24 models of 914? I love this car and I would like to add it to my collection.

Thanks for the compliments guys.
Ridefast - The only 1/24 kits that I know of is one issued in the 70's by Revell and a resin kit that a German company makes. I have the Revell kit which is somewhat simplified (with a motor) and doesnt looks okay but not exactly right (a little too boxy looking). I have heard the German resin version is simplified and soft on detail.

Was it badly packaged or did it look too much like some kind of terrorist weapon???? ;)

WOW! Tell me more about the wheels...they are so cool. Did they come staggered offset, or did you mod them? Love the paint/color
That sucks about the USPS mishap, isn't there insurance to cover it?

To answer a few questions, it was shipped wired to a display base. The wires broke and it rattled around in the case. No insurance coverage - oh well.
Kirby Hitchcock racing was formed by two drivers in the early seventies to compete in IMSA races, mostly on the west coast of the US. I was only able to find some race results, no pictures or anything else.
The wheels are somewhat of an illusion, as they are identical - the rear wheel centers are pushed to the back of the rim part and the front wheel centers are glued at the front rim of the wheel part. The wheel rims are the same type as is commonly found in 1/43 kits.

Very nice
It's sad to hear it has been broken but I'm sure you'll repair it easily.
Is it a 914-4 or 914-6? As a lover of Flat4 engines, I'm asking ;)
And Revel reissued their 1/24 914 with a new boxart. Nice kit but missing details here and there.

Hey p901r1sche,
Is that a custom made 914/6?
Do you have pictures of the car when it was green?
The sponsor is correct and it is a 6.
car did:
1976 24 Hour of Daytona 3rd place GTU
1976 12 Hours of Sebring 4th place GTU
Here is what the car looks like today, it is under restoration.

The kit was made by FIT. I built it for a customer. I have no pictures of the real car and built it based on the kit instructions. My research indicates the names on the car were disguised so the team owners could race without their insurance companies knowing about it. Dont know any more about it.
