I have just purchased a 1994 Civic (my first Honda). when I got it the weather here was still warm and I had no problems with the car starting. Now that we are getting cold at night(20-40F) this car will not start. In the last three days I have only been able to start it once, it did it by holding the gas pedal to the floor and turning the key for what seemed like 10 minutes. Once started, it ran fine and restarted fine when the engine was warm. Since then I have not been able to start it at all. It coughs like it wants to start but never does?

i have a 93 hatch and have the same problem. it happened 2 years ago in the winter and now its doing it again. i had to roll it down a hill and clutch start it to get to work! i dont yet know if it will work but i just was told that the problem could be the main relay. its supposed to be under the drivers side dash, a grey about 2 in. box. i havent found or replaced mine yet but it may be worth it for us both. http://www.d-a-p.com/shop/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=986 check them out for one. let me know if you find anymore out about it.

sounds more like your engine is'nt cranking fast enough to create a spark.. try a new battery/spark plugs... old one might be getting tired (as well as the terminal wires).. might also want to try getting your injectors cleaned.. new fuel filter (all of these are cheap solutions and should be done for a car that old anyways..)
