I like it. Is it an original or a replica?

it's an origonal...
and it is smiling! :D
he drove it on the street when it was in the dealership... ('64)... and now he races it as a vintage car.

It's a mark 1 right? I though for a minute it had fuel injection, couldn't see the carbs.
What did he do to the Cobra pit headers? They're all... painted!

the velocity stacks? they are covered... i took this right after he finished racing... or do you mean the 180 degree headers?
and i think that it is a MKIII...

Forgot about the velocity stack for a minute. I thought the fuel lines looked like a rail for a minute too.
I meant the "Cobra Pit" headers, they were a custom fabrication by the Holman and Moody Nascar team, they got the nod as the factory team. They used a ceramic coating on them, and after the first lap or so, they would glow cherry red... After they had cooled, they had the most beautiful coppery colour.

hmmm..... not sure about the headers... all i know about the is that they go 180 degrees for scavenging purposes....

They were called "Cobra Pit" headers, and originals are worth something to the order of $2000 a piece. I was just offended because they were painted, not the beautiful coppery gold colour :D

Well, that guy has ambition, thats for sure. I'll be happy with a Turbo 968. And a Cobra. And a GT-40 MK2. And a Lotus Elise. And a 959. I'm going to stop now, before I flood this forum.

I regret to say, you are gravely misinformed if you think Lamborghini can compete with Ferrari. If they could, they would be able to stay independant, and not be bought by Chrysler, and Audi.

guys, NOTHING can compete with Ferrari, it is the established power.

Yeah, but Ferraris are much lighter. They brake better, experience less fade, make better acceleration from 100-150 mph, are much easier to handle, and you really know when you're about to lose control in a Ferrari. Not so easy in a Lambo, and harder still to regain control.
The 550 Maranello is based off the older 456 GT. It is a luxury GT which has been tuned for high speed cruising. At 180 mph, you'd really rather be in a 550 than any Lamborghini.

ferrari won't scrap the F60, they have put too much into developing the car, but there is an F60 forum in the ferrari section... this is for the GT40...

Go take your love for Italian cars to the Italian Car forum, we're talking homegrown supercars here. No offense, but I've seen to many good threads die because of a topic change.
You can make really good power out of a 347 smallblock. Especially if it has a turbo. There are little tricks you can do also, like ECU management, and smaller headers, that just about eliminate turbo lag.
I think a 347 making 600 hp is more than enough power for a 2300 lb GT-40 replica.. There's a few companies that make these things, and they don't charge a lot.

Perhaps the headers were damaged, or removed. That way, when he races, he can get almost identical performance and not have to worry about the originals getting worn out and cracking. That way he gets enjoyment and keeps the value (both historically and $$$) up.
Either way, it is a very nice GT40, and the price is only going to go up with the 'new' one coming out.

I was joking about the headers :), they are original, it's just they are coated with a Jet Hot ceramic. Uncoated, they look like this

I think I may build a replica, as business vehicle of course :roflmao:

An interesting note, Holman Moody, the same team that built and ran the GT-40 program in the 60s, is now building Mark IIs to original specifications.

Wasnt that in Road and Track??
PS, I wonder if the New GT40 will see any LeMans duty. If it competed in GTS, that would be sweet.

I didn't see it in R&T... Then again, I've only had a subscription for 8 months...
I think the GT40 would rock in GTS.

Well, that would depend on whether it has the 289 or the 427. So that would be about 375hp and 450hp respectively. That's not half the story though, that's Ford V8 torque too!
