hello, i was looking at the other threads but couldn't find one that fit this problem exactly.....i have a 1996 old 88 ls, 3.8 vin k engine....i've only had this car for about 4 months and about 1 month after i got it she started acting up.....she cuts off at odd times most of the time its at low rpms (cant say exactly, no tach), idle, come to a stop, slowing down on the road. etc, she will cut off when hot or cold, pretty much any time...i've gotten the ecm replaced and flashed, changed egr valve, mass airflow sens, crankshaft position sens, had to replace the harmonic balancer as well because the retard that changed the crank sens bent the balancer when he was taking it out......i don't know what else to do, when she cust off the engine dies but all electrical keeps working, heat keeps blowing radio plays lights stay on, etc., also after she cuts off she starts pretty easy but other times shes hard to crank. most of the time when she wont start if you push on the gas a little she'll start....some times while driving she will threaten to cut off and the alternator light comes on but step on the gas a little and she ok again......also when you are parked, her idle will drop all of a sudden and come back up and will cut off later....any suggestions? gas tank, fuel filter, fuel strainer?, im thinking its fuel now cuz nothing electronic has worked. help!

well never mind, my sweet peneolpe (my car) died, i was at a stoplight and she cut off, then i parked somewhere picked up a few things i needed, got in the car turned it on and a huge cloud of white smoke came out of the exhaust, took it in to work and the temp just skyrocketed in about a minute...i gave the car to one of the mechanics to check and he said the radiator was bone dry and when he filled it up and turned on and gave it a little gas the engine locked up....i dediced to put another engine in it and get rid of her before worse stuff happens, when changing the engine we found the oil was as thick as molasses, and the fuel lines smelled of diesel, but the fuel rails and injectors smelled of gas, ill miss her

Its too bad that you got rid of the the 88 because it sounded like an upper intake manifold, but that's water over the dam, good luck with Buick.

Was this becaucse of the upper or lower mainifold or was it gasket failier? I assume it was from egr burning a hole in the passage but it would be nice if you could state what happened as your Lesabre could be prone to the same problem.

i gave it to the mechanic and didn't ask questions, although they told me when the oil was taken out of the engine it was like molasses, and the fuel lines smelled like diesel but the fuel rails and injectors smelled like gas, poor penelope, someone killed her
