Is there any way to increase the range of keyless entry? I have the factory alarm system (VIP RS3000). Range from transmitter is only about 30 feet. Tried new batteries...didn't help.
Where is the antenna or receiver on the 4Runner?
The reason for the question is that I have purchased a remote vehicle starter. It is an add on unit that is to be used in conjuction with the factory keyless entry fob. Since the range I currently have isn't all that great, I won't be able to start the car from inside the house. I purchased the add on because I didn't want to disable an otherwise dependable alarm/keyless system.
Thanks for any help

I doubt it, you would have been better off replacing the whole alrm system, with one that has a remote starter and keyless entry.

The only thing I know of that might improve it would be to increase the voltage in the key fob. This might be nearly impossible to do without ruining your fob, but if it had more batt power, im sure the signal would be stronger.

Nope. My customers just take the factory fobs and put them in a safe place then when they go to sell the vehicle, I pull out the remote start and they have nice shiny new looking OEM remotes to go with the car. Anyone who told you that you'd trash the OEM remotes by using new aftermarket ones was crazy.
Now, if you bought a DEI unit, you can add their antenna and remote to it without changing out the unit.
