97 F 150

I have a 97 F150 4X4 with electronic shift. 1st problem it would not shift into 4wd. removed wire harness from rear of dash switch, put it back and it shifted to 4L although the light says 4H. now problem is its stuck in 4L and wont disengage. How to disengage? read about similar problem in forum, tranny wouldnt shift into 4wd and the solution was to lube the front axle actuator. could my problem be as simple?
