Timing help

I just wanted to know how the car would run if it skipped a few teeth, because it did that on mine and it didnt even want to move. Just wanna know if any of you guys experienced this?

Well depending on how off the timing is it could be anywhere from a few pings and knocks, backfiring, to not running or starting at all I would imagine.

ya, or your intake and exhaust vavles could interfere, get bent, or even hit the piston, in which case you'd have some fun head-work to do.

always go to worst-case scenario when timing is messed up. a few pings and knocks? ya right, we all wish that's what would happen. the 6G72 engine is an interference engine, in which case the timing is CRITICAL so that the valves won't interfere with each other.

Not all 6G72's are interference.;) My SOHC could snap a timing belt and be back on the road in a few hours.:) I have heard of people just skipping a tooth or two and the car still runs but runs like shit. If it jumped more than a few then whatever you do, DO NOT RUN IT. You could end up saving a lot of money that way.

The most I have heard of a DOHC engine being off is 6 teeth with no damamge. I think it was the exhaust side.

Well it was only off by 3 teeth and it didnt hit the piston, heh my brothers dsm hit the piston.
