Electrical problem. Blower motor, dash lights & Driver Information Center

I have a strange set of electrical symptoms affecting the Driver Information Center and blower motor. This intermittent problem shows up on cold days when the car has been sitting turned off for a while. It goes as follows:

If the fan speed switch is turned to 1 or 2, you can hear the blower cycle up & down in speed. Synchronized with this, the intensity of the Driver Information Center goes up & down (I think the other dash lights stay bright). If left alone, for 15 seconds or so, this will go through a few cycles of voltage swing & then the Driver Information Center will go completely dark & reset and headlights switch off if it’s night-time (car has auto headlights).

Turning the blower speed off, or quickly turning it all the way up will stop this effect.

Thoughts?

lots n lots of posts about the blower moter, most end up with the resistor going bad OR the ignition switch coroding to the point of non-conductivity. my bet is with the ignition switch and its not that hard to replace with avg skills...

I know the symptoms for the blower-motor resistor going bad (been there, done that), but had not thought of ignition switch. I guess ignition-switch is a viable explanation if there is in fact one set of contacts in the switch that are responsible for Blower, DIC (but does not also power other key items that I would notice, ie; radio, ignition, etc).

Does anyone know the layout & utilization of contacts in the ignition switch?

You might take a look at this thread and it should help you out, since it sounds like you are having problems with the Ignition switch harness.
