I pulled the AW71 trans out of my friends 1991 940SE Turbo to replace the leaking input shaft seal. i also replaced the torque convertor housing O-ring and front pump o-ring. I made the mistake of taking out the front pump and stator. i also rotated the planetary front gear housing. Assembly went smoothly except that i had to rotate the planetary gear housing so that the long bolts that hold the front pump could pass though the planetary housing.
Before putting the trans in I tried rotating the output shaft (i took it out of the park position of course). The output shaft wont rotate! It's locked tight, no rotational movement at all. i took it back apart and now the output rotates fine. My question is:
do I need to use some sort of an alignment tool when putting the front end of the trans together? my guess is that the planetary gear housing is not aligned. Can someone suggest to me how to do this?

I see in a volvo shop manual that guide pins are needed to hold the transmission overdrive housing in position. i did not do this so maybe thing got binded up when i bolted the pump back up. the guide pin part number is 5241.
Does anyone know the dimensions of this pin (especially the diameter of the guide pins)?
