SR20DET without TURBO

I'm curious.

What happens if I run an SR20DET without the turbo?
I mean :
if you change all you need to change to let it look like a SR20DE
How much power can I expect?

Thanks

Well, according to http://sr20det.nismo.org/srtech.htm these are the differences between a SR20DE and the DET:

SR20DE vs. SR20DET (Remember 'T' is for Turbo)

Here are the differences between the DET and the DE:

The DET has oil squirter piston coolers
The DET has a bigger oil pump.
The DET has a different front pulley.
The DET has lower compression pistons (8.3:1 vs 9.5:1).
The DET has bigger injectors.
The DET has direct ignition.
The DET has a variable intake cam, runs retarded at idle, advanced mid range and retarded top end.
The DET has mechanical shim in bucket type lifters with a slightly bigger in duration exhaust cam.

The GTi-R DET has individual Throttle body injection.
The GTi-R DET has stronger main cap bolts.
The GTi-R DET has beefier rods.

*Just about all parts between the SR20DET and the SR20DE are interchangeable. Comes in very handy!

Now, running a non forced induction motor with 8.3:1 pistons pretty much means death. With the DE rated at 160hp with its 9.5:1 pistons, lowering them as much as they did for the turbo means you would probably be in the area of 110-120hp. Now naturally if you're going to change everything about the DET then it would include pistons, but then you're not running a DET, you've just built yourself a DE motor.

What are you doing that you would remove the turbo from a DET motor? I would imagine with all the cars the DE comes in that it would be much easier and cheaper to find one of those rather than buy at DET and try to turn it into a useful NA engine.

I have a NISSAN 1200 ute and have all in it to use an SR20 (lineal SR20 gearbox, strong diff, strong suspension, ...)

I have to buy an engine and the store offers:
SR20DE (150hp), SR20DET (220hp?) and SR20VE (190hp?)

DE : DOCH EFI
DET : DOCH EFI Turbo
VE: V stands for VVL

I wanted the DET because I know you can do a lot of thing in it
but I'm planning to race in a local championship were you cannot use more than 2000cc, rotary engines or turbos

So I was curious what would happen

Thanks a lot

Well then given that you can't use turbos, it doesn't really make too much sense to use a DET motor, as you would have to change the pistons to make any power with it. But using a DET as a base does give you some endurance related parts like the oil squirters (to keep pistons cooler), increased capacity oil pump and larger fuel injectors stock. However if you are really looking to build a competition engine, you would be doing all that to the DE block anyway.

Is there any other restrictions on what can be done to the engine as far as changing pistons, porting heads or anything of that nature? How much are you looking to spend and how much work are you looking to do?

It's called "amateurs championship"
It's really weird and last year 2004 the engines were not opened
There are other pro-categories , they have all restrictions for TS, GT, ...

about the engines:
the most expensive one is the DET ($1500)
the DE and the VE are at arround $750 + ECU

I guess I'll try the VE
