what happens when u destroke a 400 small block??? how many cubes is it then and what would be the benifits is it just gonna rev higher and produce its horsepower at a higher rpm....i will eventually rebuild a small block not only to put in my car but just because it interests me soooo much to be able to asemble something that can make an ass load of power and get u from place to place at the same time by modifing and piecing togather different combinations to make an original creation....if that makes since..i already have a 305 and i know most think its a boat ancor but a 350 isnt really all that much different in stock form i know the 350 could have alot more potential but still. and would my accesories from the 305 still bolt to the 400 like they would the 350

now i could be completley wrong there might not even be such a thing as destroking an engine now i know stroking the motor is possible from all the 383s u see sold and assembled i was just wondering about this one, could it possibly help on gas mileage too if such a thing even exists

Well, if you "destroke" a 400 with a 3.48" stroke (350 crank) you get a 372.1 cid.
The only real benifit I could fathom from this would be if you raced in a class where they limit the CID allowed. It would be a large bore engine that spins faster...good for racing but not so much for street use.

ok so the large bore and it being able to spin faster would that make it able to spin to a higher rpm, kinda like the almighty chevy 302?? im sure i will just rebuild a 350 and possibly just a 400 small block since its my first time but i was just tryin to learn something and i figured this was the place to ask

It is possible to make the ultimate 350 by destroking a 400 using a 327 large journal crank and 6 inch rods. Im building one for my circle track caprice. Its gonna kill all those 355 powered followers. You can also destoke with a 350 crank but im not sure about rod size. Im using 327 because of class rules and rod to stroke ratio being awesome.

haha...random thought....earlier this guy was cutting down some trees for the tree company and he was making fun of me working on my brakes and he said "i bet you cant do anything can you...i bet you cant even rebuild an engine, youre just a button pusher on a computer"...and i started laughing and showing him the engines i have setting around to be rebuilt and assembled ones and he said i should "take the 305 and bore it and put a 400 crank and bigger heads and it would be what is better known as a 383 stroker".....that made my day because he had this card saying he was a certified mechanic that he was showing everyone and he was trying to be all cool and impress my mom.............fucker
