IIRC, there are issues(and possibly a recall) with the heater blower failing.

Haven't Y'all gotten your recall notice yet on those things? they usually wait until your cars totally out of warrenty 100,000 or ten years,, whatever comes first,, Most the time, 100,000 comes first without a letter of recall,, thanks Ford , same goes for the wiring harness defect that causes wires to just fall apart in engine compartment,, Big bucks there,, Better get those things fixed before its too late!

The harness concern was a M program, meaning it expires and is only performed on vehicles with the actual concern. The blower resistor recall was a S program, meaning it is done if it has not been done before regardless of year or mileage. I just did three S program recalls on a 94 tauraus with about 260000 miles.

A few problems with the blower. 1. the blower has constant power and the speed is controlled with ground i.e. you're testing the wrong side. 2.There is a recall with the blower swith overloading and melting i.e. the s(safety) recall and it should not expire and sometimes the blower harness has to be replaced. 3.Sometimes the plug that goes into the fan melts and has to be replace, see if you can wiggle it and make it come on. 4.There is also a resistor that bolts to the air duct to the left of the fan toward the center and also has a recall.

Ours has also gone several times (we also have a 98 Contour) but we were told by our mechanic that is is the fuse. Apparently it is connected to the ABS breaking system and when the ABS kicks in the heater kicks out....we have had that fuse replaced atleast 5 times each winter!! UGH

I had the blower problem - and was told repeatedly that there was NOT a recall on my car - eventually my AC compressor went out and when I put in a new belt to bypass (a shorter surpentine belt) the problem was fixed - my blower works fine and the blinking of my OD light has stopped - no idea how it connects but..
