removing canopy from 96 tacoma

hi. recently bought myself a 96 toyota tacoma. came with canopy and now im looking to take it off. problem is, it looks to be attatched with some very resilient double sided tape looking stuff. cannot be pushed off for the life of me, and i dont want to pry it off for fear of scratching the paint on my truck. so my question is...

is there any product out there that will safely remove the adhesive holding the canopy on?
