Bigger Fuel Tank

I have a 2004 Silverado 2500 HD, 6.0, Automatic, 4X4, Short bed. It comes equiped with something like a 25 gallon tank. I know that the long beds have a bigger tank, longer, and more gallons. I was wondering if you could put a long bed tank in place of the 25 gallon tank?. What other options should I look at? I would enjoy more like 50 gallons for the long hauls. I thought about an auxillary tank. I thought about a bigger tank. And, I also thought about a fuel cell in the back in the bed. It sucks filling the tank up so often. How many gallons is the long bed tank? Any idea would help.
Thanks.

The LB tank is 34. Doubt it would fit in a SB. Can't cite specifics, but it would seem intuitive that if it did fit, they'd put it on there for the 8.1! That thing sure loves its gas...

Head over to www.rv.net and do a search for auxiliary fuel tanks. Lots of fellows over there have those set up.

Thanks. It just sucks that California has so many smog regulations. It seems like anything aftermarket is no good.

I hear what you're saying about a lot of aftermarket things not being better quality than stock, but there are some things that help every individual out in different ways. I realize that the engineers do a good job designing things, but coming from a mexican stand point, there is always room for improvement. Even though I'm not an engineer, sometimes I think I should have been. I have thought out a lot of things as a youngster and even in current day that are now in production. It pisses me off a little, but what are you going to do. Anyway, in this case, a larger capacity fuel tank would really help me out. 25 gallons is for people that stick to city driving, I need more like 45 gallons. I often haul loads and pull trailers. It's real easy to get 9-10 MPG, that's only like a 250 mile range, and that's pushing it close to empty! It's no fun when you don't know where the next gas stop is in a situation like that. It's not too much to ask for.

I meant that California has so many restrictions due to smog requirements, that regulate what aftermarket products we may or may not use. For some reason, certain aftermarket fuel tanks are illegal to use in California. I just haven't found the right one.
