Satellite Radio

Hey everyone.

I was just seeing how many people out there have Satellite Radio installed in their cars. I have Sirius and I love it! The music quality blows FM away. There are also many more choices and varieties than FM ever thought about having. Try to find a station that plays only Vacation music on FM.
The sports are great, Sirius is the only satellite raido provider where you can hear NFL games, this is great for the Cowboy fan that lives in Miami. Sirius also offers NHL, College football and hoops, NBA, and English Premier League Soccer.

If you are a music buff, or just tired of FM then I would recommend you get satellite radio.

how much do you pay for that? isnt it like 30 bucks a month? if so, forget that, Id rather save my 360 bucks a year. but thats just because I have better things I could spend it on.

I don't spend like $3000 on a system to listen to FM radio

This sounds less like a recommendation and more like a sales pitch. I'd bet that this person will never make another post.

It is $12.95 a month. Or you can get longer plans for cheaper. Or even a lifetime plan for $499

that was my first thought too. Its probably someone who works for Sirius, like the CEO or something lol. I dont see XM coming in here advertising like a pretend customer... I think I'll get XM radio.

Lol proof is in the fact that the person posted again without even getting offended by my post. I have Sirius and reception is shady at best, just get an Ipod and a deck that plays mp3's and say goodbye to radio and cd's forever!

I'm not going to get agitated at you, you have the right to your opinion.

I think it's fabulous, and it's only going to get better. The sound quality is great, the music isn't repetitive (mostly) and I am free from the clutches of stupid commercials, clear channel radio, and horrible static.

Of course, i DO sell the things, so i might just be biased.

I like/have Sirius, especially some of the more eclectic channels... reggae and the big band station come to mind.

When you live out in BFV like I do, and you drive as far as I do sometimes, it's awfully nice not to have to go searching for a station with no static. Just a thought ;)

I love my CD collection, and listen to them a lot. However, satellite radio has over 100 commercial-free cd-quality stations, and almost 100 other stations with tons of news, talk shows, etcetera. Even though I don't like or listen to EVERY station, there are many stations I do enjoy listening to. I don't have to worry about changing CD's while driving, especially on long trips where I may be very tired towards the end, and more likely to make a mistake while distracted by the discs.
Sat. Radio doesn't skip when i'm going down a dirt road, or driving hard on a road course. It costs less then buying one cd a month. Even without Sirius, I still listen to FM/AM occaisonally, for weather, or traffic, or just because I'm bored with the collection I have with me.
You're more then welcome to your own opinion, but it'd be nice if you brought something new to the conversation.

KMoney28- how is you reception poor? Maybe I can help you fix it, because there's something wrong with your system or setup. A sattellite-based digital data system is VERY reliable, over a large area. Just ask the military- it's what they use to navigate ;)

technically, because the way sirius is done - you should get better reception, especially in metropolitan areas

i have a question, i just got the sirius connect for my alpine head unit.. and the antenna for this thing says to mount it on the roof about 6 inches from the rear window.. or u can mount it right near the window instead. but it says that 6 inches away from the window is recommended.. would there be any difference in reception between those 2? i have a dodge stealth if that helps any..

How so? As far as i know, the only thing that should affect reception in the mainland US is heavy foilage (ie trees), overhead bridges/tunnels, and very heavy storms. In fact, sirius guarantees reception within the entire mainland US, and up to 100 miles outside the borders.

StealthModifier- It shouldn't really matter where you place it, but you should keep it away from your rear window defroster. Most installations I've seen of the magnetic-mount antenna (if that is what you're using) have it either up near the front window, or right in the middle of the roof. Either method seems to work as well.

Your signal might be worse, unless you live in a city that has repeaters. But, I would put it 6 inches out, better safe than sorry.

from the Sirius.com FAQ:

11. Hey! My signal dropped out!
While we do have in place an extensive network of ground repeaters in many metropolitan areas, factors such as microwaves and physical obstruction (bridges and tunnels) may temporarily disrupt signal reception. This problem is largely held at bay by the four-second buffer created by slight broadcasting delays between our two satellites orbiting over the continental United States. In addition, SIRIUS has in place an extensive ground network of repeaters, which rebroadcast our signal in densely populated areas.

The reason for the repeater system is that, in large cities with many skyscrapers and bridges/tunnels, the view of the sky is often obscured.

Not many sky scrapers here in BFE.

I was just kinda being an ass, Ive heard a lot of good satellite stations before they had it in cars, and I know they have good ones for XM and sirius as well. Id like to have it, I just dont feel like buying the stuff, hooking it up, and having a new bill to pay right now.

Sorry I totally forgot this thred existed. I live in Chicago and reception for my Sirius is statically most of the time. I got it probably like 2 years ago. I bought the actual unit for $10, it was a clearanced out Jensen, maybe that's the problem? Anyways I'm an idiot, every headunit I've ever owned has been XM ready but for some reason I bought the $10 Jensen Sirius handheld unit. I have no idea why I chose Sirius over XM.

i can understand that, man... i'm in debt up to my buttocks myself. i've got a prepaid thing right now, and when it expires, so does my service, until i can afford it again.

isn't the internet for being an ass anyway? :P

KMoney28- uh, you should NEVER have static with either service, sirius or XM... that's the idea of digital radio, you either have or do not have reception, there is no middle ground. I'm not sure what you mean by "handheld" but the problem is probably either in the reciever or the antenna.

 Yep Seems like a Sales Pitch. Who here on AF starts a post "Hey Everyone."

and "you are a music buff, or just tired of FM then I would recommend you get satellite radio." sounds like what they say on Paid Programing on TV.

This sounds less like a recommendation and more like a sales pitch. I'd bet that this person will never make another post.

Most People would get pissed off, well not Mr. Good Bread. this is how he Replies...

:cwm27: Who in the hell states things "$12.95." not I. I say 13 bucks. and then goes on to telling about all these other 'great' deals you can get if you give them more money up front.

but wait, it isnt the end of it.

I'm not going to get agitated at you, you have the right to your opinion.

:eek7:
WTF? either you are the nicest, coolest tempered person on AF or your a damn sales rep trying to pull a fast one. it reminds me of that MTV commercial. "If MTV where an industrial supplies Rep. he would be the best industrial supplies rep in the tri state area...ever." "he would show them the products sit back, not sweat them, like 'ya, thats whats up.' and the customer would be like 'why isnt he sweating me?"
ahhh i watch the liberal BS on MTV just to see thoes commercials. like the fooz ball one.
wait im off subject
anyway, ya this is a sales pitch.

Let me ask you a question, why are you so concerned with this? I can assure you I do NOT work for Sirius, I am just a very happy subscriber. Now, obviously I want everyone to get it, but ask a subscriber that dosen't. BTW, I stared the thread with "Hey Everyone" because it was my first post.

you gotta admit, you sound like a sales rep, or some ceo that is trying to boost lagging sales. In your very first post you already quote prices, and all that crap about reasons to buy it... you just sound like a salesman. If you dont work for Sirius, then you should get an application. it sounds like its your dream job.
