Finished: BMW Z4 Roadster

The is a Maisto 1/24 diecast rebuild, I don't think we're going to get a plastic kit of this car. Just stripping the paint off one of these diecast reveals a lot of potential, the paint was so thick that you couldn't see the fuel filler door.

I glued the hood and doors shut with epoxy glue and filled the gaps with putty and remade the panel lines. The weakest point of the whole model is the painted on rear tail lights.

I painted it with a mixture of Finisher's Greenish Blue(Sauber Petronas F1 color) and German silver. Top coated with three coats of Tamiya TS clear then polished.

The interior is a mixture of PollyScale Oily Black and Engine Black, the silver is Testors Aluminum metalizer.

I put the model together box stock except I added some brakes and lowered it, even reused the BMW emblems.

looks great, with your technique to close the doors, putty them and rescribe the doorsline give the modell a different appearence, better than the origianl die-cast.

I would never believe this is a Die-Cast if you haven´t told us.
Which putty did you use to fill the panel lines? I´m going to do something similar in the near future(i hope :icon16: ).

Great work making a Die-Cast car not look like a Die-Cast car! The Door idea is very clever! Paint is beautiful and the finish is great! You should also post this in Die-Cast so those members could also see how what they can do with their Maisto's :iceslolan

The body actually had very light mold lines and the panel lines are as good as some plastic kits.

There is more potential to unlock in this kit, I just did the basic improvements. Interiors are generally decent in diecast...especially considering Tamiya and Fujimi give hardly any door panel detail....but you can see it's shortcomings with a close look.

It will never be as good as a plastic kit can be overall but I like it as much as any of my plastic models and plan to do many more diecast rebuilds.

Yes the wheels had the big collar, not post, so I had to grind it down almost to the wheel back so the brakes would fit. The brakes were in my parts box so I don't know what they're from, but they were simular to Tamiya brakes.

I have the Maisto Ferrari 550 in my closet for a rebuild also.

Sa-Weet dude, it looks again a stunning piece of Veyron-ness, so clean and well done.

Good job for making it look like this, you showed me the "before" picture, hard to believe it would actually be made like this.

When I saw it a modelpalooza in primer, I didnt think it was a diecast. Now that its in paint, theres no way it could have been a diecast. Fantastic work!

Looks a hell of a lot better now than it did in primer! :sunglasse Those panel lines filled in and cleaned up great. Glad you stuck w/the factory rims, they fit the car well.

I use Evercoat automotive putty, the Eurosoft version.

I put it in the gap then use a toothpick to make the panel line before the putty hardens.

Agreed. The color looks a lot like Atlanta Blue from the Z3 series, at least on my monitor...a good color for a BMW roadster. :sunglasse

Thanks! It's actually a little darker and a shade or two less blue but still very much BMW-like....my camera just cannot photo blues correctly.
