hey, im looking to buy a new car... I want something that will be my daily driver, but also that will do good in mud... I plan on giving it a 2-4 inch lift and some good mud tires, i was wondering how well the 4runner handled in the mud, and how well that would be for a daily driver... right now im thinking between a jeep liberty and a toyota 4runner (id really love a 5speed manual trans, or 6speed manual for the liberty...kinda hard to find in my area though)

my 4runner hauls in the mud, i dont have any lift on it and got 31's on it (which is stock i think?) i can definately get places my friend when a wrangler cant. i drive mine everyday too and its a great daily driver, shit, in the summer you got a sunroof, electric back window, its great.
I have a 92 too tho, back when they were more like trucks, idk how the new ones do in the mud.

NEVER EVER EVER EVER waste your money on a jeep, or any chrysler product for that matter. In one year it will be broken to the point of no repair. The ONLY time a jeep is half acceptable is when its lifted like mad, and most of the oem parts have been replaced. Still, its a jeep thing, which is a crappy thing.

Well if you want a CAR that does good(for a CAR) in the mud then go with a foo-bar-roo ..I mean Subaru as they come in all wheel drive and 4 wheel drive depending on model and year...4runners are not now, never have been and never will be known as a car. They are known as trucks (common slang)and MPV's (Multi-Passenger Vehicles )

you missed SUV's and i hate it when people call 4runners trucks, they're SUV's, although i know the old 4runners were just trucks with backs on them and a backseat. new ones are definately SUV's and nothing more.

4runners, by definition are still trucks. Even the latest gen. is a truck. People hear trucks and think pickup trucks. A truck is any vehicle that has a body on frame design. Cars are unibody, but there are plenty of suv bodies on car chassis.
SO, I'm still callin my baby a truck, not only cause it is one, but also because "SUV" and "MPV" dont sound as tough n cool as "truck". Ha

Look on door jam of drivers side front and read tag just above the UPC code at bottom and read it and weep.....you got an MPV according to Toyota... I just call mine a 4x4 or truck too lol

i have a 91 4Runner it started as my daily driver and after i took it out once it is now both a daily driver and my toy. the only mods i have on it are 31 inch tires and bilstein shocks. it does excellent on black top and pretty damn good in the mud. i have also taken a jeep out and it didnt perform anywhere near what my Runner can do

One quick thing about Toyotas, mud & automatics.
There is a frame mounted oil cooler that will plug with even a little mud then you will be introduced to your "A/T Oil" idiot lite Toyota blew it here on their trucks.

i am a big fan of 4 runners i have had 2 my self. the ist gen. very good in mud and snow. with good tires. but i still wouldn't put down a jeep. and lets compare truck(tj rubicon) with truck. libertys are not great for off roading vihicle.imo
