admin/mods,
sorry if this is in the wrong place, but i thought i would share this with the rest of you...
just read this poem on skylineowners.co.uk
very touching, especially considering i've got a daughter, and would hate to think this came from her...
WENT TO A PARTY, MUM
I went to a party,
And remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink, Mom
So I had a sprite instead.
I felt proud of myself,
The way you said I would,
That I didn't drink and drive,
Though some friends said I should.
I made a healthy choice,
And your advice to me was right,
The party finally ended,
And the kids drove out of sight.
I got into my car,
Sure to get home in one piece,
I never knew what was coming, Mom
Something I expected least.
Now I'm lying on the pavement,
And I hear the policeman say,
The kid that caused this wreck was drunk,
Mom, his voice seems far away.
My own blood's all around me,
As I try hard not to cry.
I can hear the paramedic say,
This girl is going to die.
I'm sure the guy had no idea,
While he was flying high,
Because he chose to drink and drive,
Now I would have to die.
So why do people do it, Mom
Knowing that it ruins lives?
And now the pain is cutting me,
Like a hundred stabbing knives.
Tell sister not to be afraid, Mom
Tell daddy to be brave,
And when I go to heaven,
Put "Daddy's Girl" on my grave.
Someone should have taught him,
That it's wrong to drink and drive.
Maybe if his parents had,
I'd still be alive.
My breath is getting shorter, Mom
I'm getting really scared.
These are my final moments,
And I'm so unprepared.
I wish that you could hold me Mom,
As I lie here and die.
I wish that I could say, "I love you, Mom!"
So I love you and good-bye.
be sensible this christmas people, leave the car at home :frown:
hope you all have a happy and safe xmas

This has nothing to do with car modeling. Should have posted it in the COT forum.

That poem is really strong, and sends a really strong message to all, and I respect the writer for such a good poem. It's funny how I never like poetry or english, or vocab until the last few months, and it amazes me the stuff that people write about.
But that drunk driving one reminds me of a few occurences in the past year since the summer. I volunteer for my town's rescue squad, and I had to respond to 2 drunk driving accidents in my town, and we had to assist 4 other in 2 neighboring towns. Out of the 6, 2 were instant death while in the third, the death victim in that one was an innocent driver. Since I'm still too young to cut up cars and all, I had to help with the equipment while directing traffic. Some pretty graphic stuff. THe worst one out of the bunch was the innocent driver one. The intoxicated guy was driving a Dodge Ram, and was speeding at an estimated from impact 70mph in a 30 zone. And this was at a 3 way T-intersection with traffic lights and poles. The dude doing 70 slammed into a Saturn on the driver side, and slammed it into the traffic light pole, wrapping the Saturn around the pole. THe passenger side door had literally crushed the driver, because it reached over the drivers seat and was into the driver side door. The Saturn driver was killed, while the dude driving the Ram suffered only whip lash, and bumps and bruises.

I've read it before but it hits me everytime. I've lost a few friends in drunk driving related accidents. Unfortunately its a real problem where I come from, more kids need to be educated about it and parents need to understand what is going on so they dont make people leave their house after they've been drinking. :headshake:

Come on man, it doesn't matter if it has nothing to do with car modelling, this should be regarded as a reminder to everyone that drinking and driving is a BIG :nono:
I hope everyone has a safe, pleasant, and happy Christmas. I think I speak for everyone when I say that we dont want anyone here(or anywhere else for that matter) to become another statistic on the roads.

As poetry goes, its a bust. As a moral goes, its very appropriate and words to the wise.

Statistics indicate that during the holidays, 1 of every 2 drivers after 10pm have been drinking.
Let's be careful out there.

The poem is powerful, but I'm surprised you guys haven't seen it before. It started circulating around the net over 5 years ago as one of those "please send this email to 10 of your best friends" scam things.
